Curious about how Citizen Science works in practice? Let's look at a concrete example to make it easier to understand. Imagine a project where students, alongside their families, monitor local air quality. They use simple sensors to collect data on pollutants such as particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide and share their findings through an online platform. This platform allows them to visualise the data, compare results with other locations, and observe trends over time. This project isn't just about gathering data; it's about learning the science behind air quality. Students investigate how different pollutants affect health and the environment. They explore sources of pollution, such as traffic or industrial activities, and examine how weather conditions influence air quality. With this knowledge, students and their families can develop practical solutions to reduce pollution in their community. They might advocate for greener transportation options, organise tree-planting events, or promote awareness campaigns about the importance of clean air. Through this Citizen Science initiative, students can take the lead in their own learning journey. They develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills while engaging their families and communities. This hands-on approach fosters intergenerational learning and empowers everyone involved to make informed decisions for a sustainable future. #IL4SH #IntergenerationalLearning #SustainableHouseholds #CitizenScience #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalEducation #STEMeducation #GreenSkills #EcoFriendlyLiving #SustainabilityMatters #CommunityEngagement #FamilyLearning #ScienceForAll #GreenInnovation #ErasmusPlus

We make cities circular and liveable for all │ Circular economy, innovation and international cooperation │ Equal rights for all│ Senior Advisor @ Institute HiiCCE │ Opinions are mine alone
🌱 Ready to save the planet? How can students get involved in transforming our cities? #SDG12, focusing on responsible consumption and production, calls for fundamental changes in how societies produce and consume goods and services, emphasizing responsible resource use, waste reduction, and environmental protection. The goal is to create a more sustainable and equitable world for present and future generations. Universities serve as learning labs where #sustainability and #circularity concepts are incubated, tested, and refined. Using real-world challenges, projects, or scenarios in education offers several significant benefits for students: · Finding solutions to real world challenges requires analyzing complex situations, critical thinking and problem solving. · Students learn to make informed decisions and adapt their strategies based on the requirements of the challenge provider. Bringing academia, industry, and cities together contributes to circularity in several ways - building and fostering a circular mindset among all participants, - developing innovative ideas through #CrossInnovation, - equipping our future leaders with important skills, and - shaping our cities and societies though lifelong learning. 🌎 In Conclusion, education isn’t just about textbooks; it’s about nurturing change-makers. Let’s empower our students, ignite their passion for #CircularCities, and watch as they shape a brighter, greener future. Students who want to create #CircularCities4ALL can find open challenges in the comments of this post #SustainableCities #EducationMatters #ChangeMakers #CircularCities4ALL

Let's make an IMP>ACT together! 💫 This #HorizonEurope project aims to understand what learners truly gain from Sustainability and Climate Change Education (SCCE) and how it shapes their mindsets and actions. Over the next four years, this project will focus on developing the IMP>ACT assessment framework aiming to delve deep into the impact of Sustainability and Climate Change Education. The framework will focus on #ActionCompetence as the key learning outcome of these educations and on #ActionOrientation as an approach to the quality of educational policies and practices across Europe. By bridging the gap in understanding and providing evidence-based insights, IMP>ACT aims to empower decision-makers in steering the course toward a more sustainable future. Why do people still pretend the circular economy is new? It's not. We are simply hindering progress through ignoring all the learning, insights, knowledge we've gleamed about making this a reality over the past few decades. The concept has been around for centuries & in its current form it has been written about since the '60s. Even I, as a naive 20 year old, first wrote about the importance of closing resource loops in 1989 for my undergraduate thesis at University of Limerick. The image is an excerpt from the conclusion section. Can we just get on with changing the system? #AuthenticLeadership #SystemsDesign #CircularEconomy
