E.DSO was present at the 10th Energy Infrastructure Forum held in Copenhagen on 27 and 28 June. ✨ The first day included the high-level panel “A fast-track to EU’s net zero energy infrastructure” as well as recognition given to E.DSO member E.ON Czech subsidiary EG.D for the signature of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF Energy) cross-border distribution smart grids project Gabreta along with its German partner Bayernwerk. E.DSO highlights the increasing need for funding of cross-border projects at DSO level, of which the Gabreta project is a good example. Today, E.DSO was represented by Secretary General Charles Esser and Torsten Knop (E.ON) in a more of a traditional forum with topics of interest to E.DSO such as planning EU’s electricity distribution grids and anticipatory investments, incentives and tariffs. ⚡💰 ✅ Torsten Knop noted that E.DSO acknowledges that the Distribution Network Development Plans should take account of available flexibility and consider the specific requests of the customers and stakeholders to the degree possible. The necessary rules shall be part of the Network Code Demand Response, where they are already in the current draft developed by System Operators. Furthermore, when it comes to anticipatory investments, we should keep in mind that the social costs of underinvestment are much higher than those of overinvestment. ☝️ #EnergyIF #DSOs

Busy times and sometimes we manage to tick an important milestone on the way ✅ Projects of Common Interest, or the European PCI status, is an signifiant recognition of the importance of realising a meshed grid in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The meshed grid will allow us to 🧩 utilise offshore wind farms very far from land efficiently, and ♻️ use cables for not only for exporting power to shore but also to share with other countries when there is less wind, 🌿which is needed for the green transition and independence of fossil fuels
ENERGY ISLANDS IN DENMARK BECOME PART OF EUROPEAN COMMISSIONS PROJECTS OF COMMON INTEREST (PCI) Today, again I am smiling, as I did on the picture, back in November 2021, when we signed our first agreements with Elia Group and 50Hertz Transmission GmbH on the hybrid interconnectors TritonLink and Bornholm Energy Island. Because these days "the era of EU funding for fossil fuel infrastructure is over", as Kadri Simson, EU Commissioner for Energy, stated yesterday, when the European Commission adopted a list of 166 vital cross-border projects that will connect European countries and green economies of the future. Among the list of PCI's are TritonLink and Bornholm Energy Island - pioneering hybrid interconnectors in the North Sea and in the Baltic Sea. I strongly believe that to become independent of fossil fuels we must strengthen our ties. In a way, to become independent of fossil fuels, is to acknowledge and take serious our dependency of each other in Europe. Because of that I smile. Because of that I salute every single one of my many hard working colleagues in Energinet, Elia Group and 50Hertz Transmission GmbH working on these large and complex energy infrastructure projects that are so important in order to pave the way for all the green energy we need for a better world! #greentransition #energyislands #offshorewind

https://lnkd.in/gMUc27zJ Listen to Hanne Storm Edlefsen describe Denmark’s visionary wind energy initiative on National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s #gridtalk #podcast #windpower Edison Electric Institute EPRI US DOE IEEE European Commission #greenpower #climateaction Two Danish islands will serve as hubs of massive new offshore wind turbines to serve itself and neighboring countries and spur development of clean hydrogen green fuel for aircraft and factories. In this episode of Grid Talk, host Marty Rosenberg talks with Hanne Storm Edlefsen who is the vice president of Energy Islands, a project of the Energinet transmission system operator in Denmark. One complex will be on Bornholm Island in the Baltic and link up 3,000 megawatts of wind power, simplifying the collection of the power and its transmission to land. The second complex will be on a new island to be built in the North Sea. “Well out in the North Sea, we’re going to build an artificial island so that’s a whole other project. This is supposed to be finished in 2033 as the plans are now. It will be in the beginning three or four gigawatts of offshore wind which is to be decided by Parliament within the next couple of months, but the ambition is actually that later there will be added even more gigawatts so the artificial island in the North Sea will end on 10 gigawatts which is so much electricity,” said Edlefsen. Wind power provides half of Denmark’s electricity, and the goal is to increase it by 80% by 2024.

The transition to renewable energy is depending on a closer collaboration between the European private sector, TSO’s and the EU. It was satisfying to see this recognized by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the EU Commission, at a meeting hosted by DI - Dansk Industri today where NKT participated amongst other major Danish companies, including Ørsted, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Topsoe, Novozymes, COWI, Novo Nordisk, VELUX, and Siemens. We need to see investments in the power cable sector to ensure the capacity needed for the development of an interconnected power grid in the EU. To succeed, it is essential with a political framework securing fair competition and consistency in EU regulation to enable investments in power grid technologies. The meeting today was a step in the right direction for the green transition of Europe – now, let’s speed it up and enable a stronger collaboration across the EU. #weconnectagreenerworld Photo credit: Jakob Melgaard

Traxis Group in partnership with Gemserv are delighted to invite you to the inaugural event of the exciting new Local Energy Market Alliance (LEMA). The electrification of heating and transport and the maximization of roof-top solar are all initiatives that rely on action by multiple responsible parties, not least consumers. However, responsibility for delivering these elements of the energy transition is highly fragmented and leadership is sadly lacking with too many parties having bit roles. This is the local energy burden. “Energy-smart places” holds the key. “Energy-smart places” holds the key as shown by Innovate UK’s £107m Prospering from the Energy Revolution (PfER) programme. Europe is also starting to look at District Self-Balancing, and several energy communities are appearing. As a result, organisations are realising that local systems have an important role to play in the current crisis and are looking for ways in which to do this. It is not a technical challenge: it is a business challenge. LEMA will be the alliance through which businesses will take the initiative to create a market that will move consumers to mass adoption and generate major business opportunities.
