Talent is everywhere: are you missing it? Watch this video and see how skill-based hiring works. We completely ignore populations: those without bachelor’s degrees, the formerly incarcerated, the differently abled, and older people. But how can you expect differently, when one of the strongest hiring signals is usually 'if someone's done that kind of work before'? Pioneering companies are already leading the path. They're valuing skills over degrees, and potential over experience. They're offering second chances to those who have found the strength to change. They’re opening doors for the differently abled, realizing the diverse perspectives they bring to the table. They're welcoming older talent, acknowledging the wisdom and experience they hold. One of the things I've been most proud to assist here at Alkemy is the launch of a joint project with Auticon, which employs autistic Data Scientists and Software Developers working for a big data project for Agos (financial services). Results have been incredible, both on a performance point of view, but also, most importantly, for a two-way street where learning between the different approaches augmented all of the teams' capabilities. These should not be projects, this should be inclusion and diversity being leveraged every day, in every activity.

*Senior Administrative Assistant /Executive Assistant * Driving productivity, efficiency, & engagement for senior executives through process improvement, communications, events planning, calendaring, & doc management
I remember someone, on LinkedIn, posting that they thought they were rejected from a job candidacy because of their age (over 40). I highly doubt it. I would hire, work for and work with people over 40/50/60 if they have the right experience -- and many others would, too. There are many positives in working with people in all age groups. The actual culprit, I believe, is the digital application experience (Glassdoor, Indeed, etc.). It is creating a new job-seeking culture that we're all just starting to grasp. I compare the current digital application ecosystem to downloading a 5k file on a modem in the early 90's, it was maddening slow. But technology has since improved and I think that the digital application scenario is headed in that positive direction. But for now, the rejection-to-application ratio sure seems to be 90:1 (from what I'm gathering from others and from my experience) -- which can naturally accentuate fears of discrimination, but I don't think it's reality.

💻 Computing is like a pop culture. […] Pop culture holds a disdain for history. Pop culture is all about identity and feeling like you’re participating. It has nothing to do with cooperation, the past or the future—it’s living in the present. I think the same is true of most people who write code for money. They have no idea where [their culture came from]. —Alan Kay, in interview with Dr Dobb’s Journal (2012). Technology is a powerful force in our society. Data, software, and communication can be used for bad: to entrench unfair power structures, to undermine human rights, and to protect vested interests. But they can also be used for good: to make underrepresented people’s voices heard, to create opportunities for everyone, and to avert disasters. 🌐💡 #TechForGood #Innovation #SocialImpact

If I offered you an opportunity to have one meaningful conversations every single month with some of the world’s most interesting and diverse minds with the aim of expanding your perspective, empathy, range, etc…. how much would you pay per month for that service? More details: We would make sure your matches spanned geography, industry, age and culture so that you could step outside of your algorithmic circle. we would offer you a guarantee where if after one year you didn’t feel like this service increased your perspective, empathy, consciousness, influence, reach, mind… we would issue your money back no questions asked. Yes or no? And why? If no, tell me how you’re making sure that your perspective stays and remains diverse and nuanced in this highly algorithmic world.

🏆2023 Recruiter of the Year according to the Employment and Recruitment Federation 🏆 An absolute melt on Linkedin according to colleagues🤒
Me to ChatGPT: Write a short two paragraphs about Taylor Swift's impact on the recruitment industry in Ireland Output (you're WELCOME): Taylor Swift's influence transcends the boundaries of the music industry, reaching unexpected realms like recruitment in Ireland. Swift's relentless pursuit of authenticity and empowerment has inspired a generation to embrace their individuality and pursue their passions fearlessly. This cultural shift has had a ripple effect, particularly in the recruitment sector, where employers are increasingly prioritizing candidates who exhibit not only the requisite skills but also a strong sense of self-awareness and confidence, traits often associated with Swift's persona. Moreover, Swift's advocacy for inclusivity and diversity has spurred Irish recruitment agencies to adopt more inclusive hiring practices. By emphasizing the importance of embracing diversity in all its forms, from gender and ethnicity to background and experience, Swift has catalyzed a movement within the recruitment industry to foster environments where every individual feels valued and respected. As a result, companies are not only seeking talent that aligns with their business goals but also prioritizing candidates who contribute to a diverse and inclusive workplace culture, ultimately shaping a more vibrant and dynamic professional landscape in Ireland. Happy Friday.

Leadership and communications specialist; empathy, positive leadership, foresight and problem solving focus..
Wrong. Interesting observations, but let's steer onto a few more paths. First, good people can and will jump in the fray and grab truth by the nape and hold it up for everyone to see. Like I did as a great journalist. They also are often calm yet dynamic as attorneys and arguers, steering the shared thinking process with wisdom, patience, and dogged focus. And calling out the flaws. Jerks, sadly, often rankle the process to the extent that our dislike for them clouds our willingness to communicate with them--or consider their points of view. In many cases we rightly perceive them as factually inconsiderate, to the point of being offended by most any counterargument. Last, the jerk's tendency to be rude sours the exchange and promise of clear, thorough thinking and information exchange. I've seen four great, dynamic, open and inclusive workplaces destroyed by the hiring and/or promotion of jerks.

📱 Today, my 11-year-old daughter stumbled upon this old-style mobile phone with buttons and asked me, "Dad, what is this?" It took me by surprise and got me thinking... In our fast-paced world, technology evolves rapidly, and what was once commonplace can become a relic to the next generation. It's a reminder that as professionals, we encounter new team members who might not be familiar with things we take for granted. Instead of reacting with laughter or impatience, it's our responsibility to educate and bridge these gaps in knowledge. Each newcomer brings a fresh perspective, and it's through patient guidance and understanding that we foster a culture of inclusivity and growth. Moreover, just as we teach them about our experiences, we can also learn from new generations about things they take for granted. Their insights into emerging trends, technologies, and social dynamics can be invaluable assets in keeping our teams adaptable and forward-thinking. Let's embrace the opportunity to share our experiences and knowledge, while also being open to learning from the diverse perspectives that each new member brings. Together, we can create an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute to our collective success. 💡 #Teamwork #Inclusivity #Education #GrowthMindset 🚀

Beat Unconscious Bias. In today's modern tech age, even our tech tools can carry unconscious bias. It's incredibly important to remain mindful and dedicated to promoting diversity. Tech might be effective, but it's only as fair as the people who use it. Let's choose to recognise this and collaborate to build a society where every perspective is respected and appreciated. 🤝Hiring🤝 #hiring #recruitment #apply
