Canadians generally need to wake up when it comes to the financial services industry. Ignorance is not bliss. It empowers Big Banks to get away with this crap. Even this well intentioned reporting from CBC misrepresents the fiduciary duty of advisors. No, advisor registration does not add a layer of protection for clients. In fact, a licensed financial advisor - even a financial planner - has no real fiduciary duty to clients. That may surprise most investors. It probably surprises many advisors! Of course, if you have an investment portfolio in Canada chances are you benefit enormously from the profitability of the Big Banks. You own these companies! So, irony of ironies, we're getting screwed by shady sales practices and egregious fees and poor products, but we're enjoying it at the same time! But look at those reliable dividends! We've joined ranks with the other foreign commercial banks operating in the Bahamian market. What do I mean? Well, we too have now increased our fees for the usage of in person teller services with a human bank teller. The service which was once free (only incurring monthly stamp duty) as of January 2nd, 2024 will now pinch your pocket at an alarming rate of BSD $2.20 per withdrawal if you decide to come in and bank with us utilizing our human teller agents. But if you receive our mandate, it would be wise to utilize our various suite of banking cards at the ATM machine. We once allowed you to make up to 3 free withdrawals without incurring ATM charge per month. How courteous of us. But that too has changed. All ATM withdrawals are now subject to a charge of BSD$0.83 per transaction. Your monthly stamp duty charge is presently pegged at BSD$0.40. And of course we did not send out an email or any other correspondence to our users. We're utilizing word of mouth at point of in person transaction.
