Therapeutic care creates brighter futures. We know that with the right support, underserved children perpetuate cycles of poor physical and mental health, economic hardship and illiteracy. By increasing access to support and therapy for children with special needs in Jamaica, we can change the trajectory of a child’s life and lead to positive health and quality of life outcomes. Jamaican government, our question is, will you join us? Read our recent blog the Dire Need for Support: Autism a Costly Diagnosis, Full of Hurdles for Jamaican Families --> https://lnkd.in/gxyC8Bct

Business Owner at Hope's Therapy Dogs. Providing emotional and mental health support through Animal Assisted Intervention CPD accredited training for therapy dog partnerships.
🚨 UCLA researchers reveal a striking link between parents' childhood traumas (ACEs) and increased risks for their children. 😮 Adverse experiences like abuse, neglect, or loss of a parent heighten the likelihood of youth arrests and convictions. 📉 This highlights the urgent need for ACE prevention and interventions to break the cycle of trauma across generations. Dr. Elizabeth Barnert underscores the pivotal roles of doctors and policymakers in addressing childhood trauma and reshaping the justice system. 🩺👨⚖️ Positive childhood experiences aren't always enough to counterbalance ACEs, highlighting the complexity of trauma mitigation. 🤝 The study underscores the need for a shift towards empathy-driven solutions in public health and law enforcement. 💡 Hope's Therapy Dogs are on a mission to break the cycle by helping children navigate ACEs and create better future outcomes. 🐾 Our empathy-driven approach fosters resilience and healing in at-risk youth. 💡 Let's advocate for policies that prioritise prevention and support for vulnerable families. 🌟 #ACEs #YouthJustice #PublicHealth Read more here: https://rb.gy/qv2h9r 📰

Follow BIST as they join Victim and Survivors of Crime week, highlighting the challenges individuals with ABI, as a result of IPV, face with navigating the legal system. Highlights will include sharing information on their valuable and unique resource, ABI Justice. https://lnkd.in/gkrix--c.
As we enter Victims and Survivors of Crime Week, the Brain Injury Society of Toronto (BIST) is proud to join in and concentrate our efforts on a vital yet often neglected matter—the intersection of intimate partner violence (IPV) and brain injuries, and the challenges they pose when navigating the legal landscape, both for survivors and legal professionals. Our focus is on advancing support and resources for victims in Ontario, particularly those affected by IPV-related brain injuries. We will be sharing resources from our website, ABIJustice.org, emphasizing the critical necessity for continuous support for women impacted by IPV and brain injury within the legal system. Our goal is to raise awareness of this urgent issue and ensure comprehensive care and support for those affected. Join us in bringing attention to this important cause. Founder @ The Joss District 🌱 Wholistic Family Wellness Center✨ | Mama Trauma Barbie Pod Host🎙️ Less Trauma < More Mama 🩷
For anyone in the mental health landscape... A must ⬇️ So many of our children today, we are pegging them as having mental health challenges. Correction ⚠️ They have health challenges masking mental health symptoms. There is a difference. We are overlooking the BIGGER picture and many of these kiddos are being misdiagnosed. It is why suicide is now the second leading cause of death in children age 9 to 24 years old (CDC). Our family was on this journey for over six years. It's why I am partnering with some of the nation's best clinicians who specialize in childhood epidemics to build The Joss District, Inc. The larger healthcare system is negligently broke. It's going to take a multipronged approach to dig out and catch up to the unprecented rise in pediatric illnesses caused by modern living. Part of the work is educating parents ✅ Part of the work is educating health providers ✅ Part of the work is educating educators ✅ ✅ Part of the work is re-creating delivery systems and initiating treatment facilities like The Joss District to help kids and families get a WHOListic treatment plan and support structure. If the below training is not an option, feel free to visit Aspire's resource page and your family or organization can learn more or schedule a free training about PANS and PANDAS. ▶️ https://lnkd.in/gdCQxjJi
I'm excited to share I will be traveling to Orlando to present at International OCD Foundation conference in July! I will be presenting as a board member and representative of The Alex Manfull Fund - hoping to ensure no other life will ever again be cut short – or interrupted - by PANS/PANDAS. I will be joined by two young adults - Elise Petronzio and Abby Gauch- who will share their lived experience with the illness - including the healing they have found since accessing treatment and the impact of not having PANS/PANDAS diagnosed at the onset of their symptoms. If you are mental health or medical provider working with children and young adults - please take time to learn about PANS/PANDAS - it could save a life! There is still time to register for this amazing conference! https://lnkd.in/e2ia9xga

One leading example is a Children and Youth Resilience Challenge Phase 1 finalist, Geisinger, who developed "ACEs Screening at Well-Child Visits to Build Risk-Level Tailored Clinic to Community Response (ALLIANCE)." This project aims to: - Develop and evaluate an integrated solution for identifying families affected by or at risk for child maltreatment; - Provide tailored preventive counseling in clinical care; - Connect families to community resources to promote protective factors and prevent future maltreatment; and - Improve the mental health and resilience of the whole family.
