Why might four of MVA's colleagues be in Germany when MVA is a Danish-Swedish organization? By now you probably know that it is very important for us as cluster organization to support and facilitate cross-border life science collaborations in #MediconValley - and one of these, the #HALRIC project, involves not only Sweden and Denmark, but also Norway and Germany. So we are very actively involved in the project's second conference, which happens to take place in Hamburg today ✅ But there is more to it! This particular Scandinavian-German consortium also helps us think forward to the opening of the #FehmarnBelt fixed link. That new connection will bring the life science sector of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein much closer to Medicon Valley, the strongest life science cluster in the EU, enabling strong synergies. Therefore in this consortium we not only collaborate with research institutes, but also with regional governments and life science organizations - together developing future strengths of this combined region 💪 Mette Bach Dyremose, Maria Sundh, Claus Højlund, Stephan Bouman HALRIC Hanseatic Life Science Research Infrastructure Consortium City of Hamburg, Klaus von Lepel, Sarah Marshall-Bensch Region Skåne, Eskil Mårtensson, Marie-Louise Lövgren Region Hovedstaden, Jakob Øster Life Science Nord, Sarah Niemann, Oliver Schacht Medicon Village, Petter Magnusson Hartman
The show is on!🎉 After many months of preparing the HALRIC Conference we’re finally here in Hamburg - warming up with an Industry Workshop and later today kicking off the 2-day conference with a high level opening and panel session. I am really excited to see the program and presentations in action and to network with our growing HALRIC community. Together we build new cross-border collaborations for the benefit of life science innovation through the use of unique Research Infrastructures🚀 HALRIC Hanseatic Life Science Research Infrastructure Consortium Stephan Bouman, Maria Sundh, Claus Højlund, Sarah Niemann

Hi, news from #AlertHub_CostAction We started thinking about the need for a knowledge platform to share the best practices for managing risk situations one year ago. A week ago, we started the COST action that we will use to develop the platform that could help make disaster/risk alert systems and communication more effective.
📣 We are AlertHub, one of the newest COST Action to be implemented between 2024 and 2028! 🌍 Being developed as an EU-funded research network (through COST Association - European Cooperation in Science and Technology) AlertHub aim is to foster cross-border exchange and collaboration focused on warning systems, risk and crisis communication and to address the current needs and challenges experienced in practice by a wide variety of stakeholders. * Research alert * .....and Ola from Spain! ... where #COEMinerals researcher, materials engineer Regina Medeiros is attending the 13th International Colloids Conference (#COLL2024). We are delighted to share Regina's new research paper: "Selective aggregation of fine copper minerals using charged polyacrylamides", open access, in Elsevier Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects: https://lnkd.in/gjn_3ukB Congratulations to all authors, including Dr Casey Thomas and Prof. George Franks Research explainer: #Copper minerals are essential for securing the future supply of renewable energy and cleaner technologies, with previous studies showing an increasing crescent copper demand of up to 350% by 2050. The proposed flocculation approach has the potential of improving the collection of the fine copper particles normally lost in industrial separation processes, which can count for up to 20% of total copper in the ore. Additionally, it offers an alternative to #reprocessing existing mineral waste, reducing the need for additional extraction, and potentially saving water and energy use in mineral beneficiation (separation). The research investigates how these polymers interact with the mineral surfaces, their adsorption mechanisms and flocculation capabilities, including in-situ measurement of the size and structure of the aggregates. The research shows important advances about what types of commercially inexpensive reagents can be used for flocculation, and how they can be applied to improve the recovery of valuable copper fine particles. This work should be of interest to readers in the areas of particle aggregation, polymer adsorption, in-situ particle image characterisation, and mineral processing.
