💯Have you ever thought about what New York has to offer in setting up decarbonization goals for buildings emitting emissions? ⚒️ Buildings account for approximately two-thirds of greenhouse gas emissions in New York City. To combat climate change and reduce emissions, Local Law 97 was introduced. It was included in the Climate Mobilization Act, passed by the City Council in April 2019 as part of the Mayor’s New York City Green New Deal. 🎯 Local Law 97 sets out to reduce building emissions by 40% by 2030 and 80% by 2050. 💵 Under LL97, most buildings over 25,000 gross square feet that exceed emissions limits will face annual fines beginning in 2025. 📃 The law is implied to: - Buildings over 25,000 gross square feet - Two or more buildings on the same tax lot totaling over 50,000 gross square feet. - Two or more buildings are owned by a condo association governed by the same board of managers that exceed 50,000 gross square feet. 🌐 One way to reduce your building emissions is to make improvements that increase energy efficiency or introduce distributed energy resources. Sustainiam provides the exclusive suite that offers to combat the impact of emissions and to safeguard limitations towards the usage of resources by providing an effortless emission calculation via Emission Calculator (ECal). #decarbonizationgoals #nycgreennewdeal #locallaw97 #renewableenergy #sustainability #buildingemissions #emissionreduction #urbansustainiability #carbonfootprint #climatepolicy Arup Bright Power, Inc. **LL97 Compliance: Path to Sustainability in New York City**🌿 At the heart of New York City, LL97 Compliance is at the forefront of an innovative transformation. This far-sighted plan leads to a brighter, more sustainable future for the city's iconic skyline. Reducing carbon emissions from buildings is a top priority in New York City, so the city has implemented strict requirements and given building owners more autonomy. 🏙️ This path, however, has its challenges. When considering the costs of retrofitting and switching to renewable energy, it's important to distinguish between the duties of the owner and those of a tenant. However, the transition to renewables and sustainability creates diverse employment possibilities and sparks innovation, fostering a robust green economy, so even the greatest obstacles can be seen as opportunities. Factors such as economic instability and resistance may jeopardize this Herculean task. The key to success is strict and consistent execution of the rules. The city that never sleeps hopes for a greener skyline in the future, and you can help it get there by joining the effort! #LL97Compliance #SustainabilityNYC🌎💚 #buildingenergyefficiency #energymodeling #locallaw97 #LL97 #ClimateMobilizationAct #NewYorkCity #plaNYC
Cities across the globe today are facing major challenges in implementing lofty emission reduction goals across their skyline. New York City's climate change goals are among the most ambitious. NYC has implemented several local laws over the years to reduce carbon emissions. Local Law 97 targets buildings over 25,000 sq.ft and provides a pathway for building owners to gradually implement the necessary changes in order to comply with the building code. #buildingenergyefficiency #locallaw97 #energymodeling #NewYorkCity #plaNYC #ClimateMobilisationAct https://lnkd.in/g_8YP4mX

A new law in Seattle marks the latest in a wave of local efforts to electrify homes and other buildings. Under the city’s Building Emissions Performance Standard, signed into law last week, all existing commercial and multifamily residential buildings over 20,000 square feet will need to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Cities and states including Seattle; Ashland, Oregon; and Washington state are sidestepping legal challenges by finding creative alternatives to banning gas outright — including by setting emissions targets, updating building codes and restricting indoor air pollution. California has recently achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first state in the United States to implement mandatory measures aimed at reducing embodied carbon emissions. This groundbreaking move entails the establishment of general code standards that require the reduction of embodied carbon emissions in large commercial and school buildings. Embodied carbon refers to the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the entire life cycle of a building, including its construction, materials, and eventual demolition or renovation. By mandating these reduction measures, California is taking proactive steps toward mitigating climate change and promoting sustainable practices within the construction industry. This means the carbon intensity of materials becomes fundamental to projects #CarbonReduction #CarbonEmissions #SustainablePractices #ClimateChange #CarbonIntensity

On September 12, 2023, the NYC Department of Buildings unveiled a new set of proposed rules for the implementation of Local Law 97. These rules cover compliance, penalties, and incentives for building owners. The proposed rules are open for public comment until a public hearing on October 24. https://lnkd.in/dUZrhaKh Mayor Adams simultaneously launched "Getting 97 Done." The plan focuses on four key elements to reduce building emissions: identifying and targeting city, state, federal, and utility-based financing and funding for upgrades; providing buildings with needed technical advice through the NYC Accelerator; implementing key enforcement mechanisms via a New York City Department of Buildings rule package; and decarbonizing central systems in partnership with New York State. Under Local Law 97, most buildings over 25,000 square feet will be required to meet new energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions limits by 2024, with stricter limits coming into effect in 2030. The goal is to reduce the emissions produced by the city’s largest buildings 40 percent by 2030 and 80 percent by 2050. https://lnkd.in/gB8U29Wk #greenhousegasemissions #greenbuildings #netzero #energyefficiency #newyorkcity #locallaw97
