Lenovo’s major UK win over InterDigital, Inc.: chart and further analysis By way of contrast, after two rounds of U.S. litigation, Ericsson had a court ruling against HTC that it could ask for either $2.50 per unit (more than 11 times what InterDigital got after two rounds of litigation in the UK) or $1-4 unit depending on the device price. Both parties' lawyers did great work: Gowling WLG for InterDigital, Kirkland & Ellis for Lenovo. But like Mr Justice Mellor wrote last year, it's still true that Lenovo is the commercial winner. (And another "winner" may be the Unified Patent Court, depending on how its own SEP case law evolves.) #FRAND #standards #patents https://lnkd.in/dprnn8F4

In recent tech market developments, Nvidia is facing notable challenges, as discussed by Bloomberg's Caroline Hyde and Ed Ludlow. The company's recent performance has raised concerns among investors and industry watchers alike. In other news, the Supreme Court has made a significant decision by sending social media laws back to lower courts for further review. This move could have far-reaching implications for how social media platforms are regulated in the future. On a different note, Qualcomm has secured a high-profile sponsorship deal, becoming the new front-of-shirt sponsor for Manchester United. This partnership is expected to bring increased visibility and strategic opportunities for both entities. #TechNews #Nvidia #SupremeCourt #SocialMedia #Qualcomm #ManchesterUnited #Sponsorship #Bloomberg ---------------------- Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/e7Cb3Tbk

Intel Corporation receives first High-NA EUV chipmaking tool from ASML — Intel is the first pathfinder for revolutionary new lithography tech Intel last Jannuary had issued its first purchase order to ASML for the delivery of the industry’s first TWINSCAN EXE:5200 system – an extreme ultraviolet (EUV) high-volume production system with a high numerical aperture and more than 200 wafers per hour productivity – as part of the two companies’ long-term High-NA collaboration framework. And just on Friday, almost exactly one year after, Intel Oregon received the first major components of ASML's first shipped High-NA EUV technology to help enable the continued pursuit of Moore's Law. ASML's Twinscan EXE lithography tool is a huge machine shipped in 250 crates spread across 13 cargo containers on 13 trucks. ASML sent the first container from Veldhoven, the Netherlands, on December 21 and now Intel received it at its site near Hillsboro, Oregon. In the coming months, the tool will be assembled at Intel's D1X Mod3 research fab, where our engineers will learn how to use the tool to produce chips using the our 18A fabrication technology. High-NA EUV litho machines are outfitted with a 0.55 NA (High-NA) lens that can achieve a resolution of 8nm, a major improvement over existing EUV tools — the existing 0.33 NA (Low-NA) lens offers a 13nm resolution. The resolution improvement will be crucial for post-2nm technologies requiring either Low-NA EUV double patterning or High-NA EUV single patterning. Some quotes from last year: “Intel’s vision and early commitment to ASML’s High-NA EUV technology is proof of its relentless pursuit of Moore’s Law. Compared to the current EUV systems, our innovative extended EUV roadmap delivers continued lithographic improvements at reduced complexity, cost, cycle time and energy that the chip industry needs to drive affordable scaling well into the next decade,” said ASML President and CTO Martin van den Brink. Intel was the first to purchase the earlier TWINSCAN EXE:5000 system in 2018, and with the new purchase announced in 2022, the collaboration continued the path for Intel’s production manufacturing with High-NA EUV beginning in 2025.
