It's time to act! Let's change the way we see and treat obesity. Despite scientific progress, outdated views persist, undermining progress. Let's demand change from our legislators. Use the Obesity Action Coalition tool (link in comments) to send a message to your Senators and Representatives urging them to support the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA). Let's ensure everyone gets access to evidence-based treatments for obesity, just like for other chronic diseases. What is TROA? It is a bi-partisan bill that was reintroduced into the 117th Congress by Senators Tom Carper (D-DE) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) in the Senate and Representatives Ron Kind (D-WI), Tom Reed (R-NY), Raul Ruiz (D-CA) and Brad Wenstrup (R-OH-2) in the House, respectively. TROA is a bill that directly provides Medicare beneficiaries with access to safe and effective obesity treatment tools, including expanded coverage of visits with healthcare providers who specialize in obesity care and FDA-approved anti-obesity medications. More than 42% of U.S. adults aged 60 and older live with obesity, and nearly 6% live with severe obesity. Your voice matters! 🗳️🩺 People deserve access to obesity care! VIVUS is proud to partner with the World Obesity Federation and help create awareness and action around treating this chronic disease on #WorldObesityDay (March 4, 2024). Obesity is not only a risk factor for other diseases, it is a disease in its own right. As noted by the World Obesity Foundation, obesity was added to the sixth International Classification of Diseases in 1948. Yet over seven decades later, this classification has not been fully accepted. Although an increasing number of organizations and countries now recognize obesity as a disease, many still do not, hampering attempts to address the pandemic. Review the Healthcare professionals statement in the Obesity Factsheets section of the #WorldObesityDay website at https://lnkd.in/ei5dnZdC VIVUS is committed to advancing treatment options for obesity and offering much-needed hope to patients globally. Today is World Obesity Day. A date created in 2015 by World Health Organization with the objective of increasing awareness, encourage advocacy, improve policies, and share experiences. According to the World Obesity Atlas 2022, there are 360 million people in Latam with #overweight or #obesity, which responds to 58% of the population. Each country faces different challenges when dealing with obesity. At Novo Nordisk, we work hard to drive change and to see obesity recognized as a chronic disease, breaking down the stigmas. Our goal is to increase the quality of life of people so they can live their best lives. This is our goal and our purpose. #DrivingChange #Worldobesityday

Today is World Obesity Day, a crucial reminder of the importance of addressing one of the most pressing health issues of our time. Obesity is a greater threat to global health than hunger. With over 1 billion people living with #obesity, it is now the leading cause of malnutrition, says a new analysis from the #lancet The NICE guidance on Endscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty issued last month provides another tool in the fight against this epidemic. https://lnkd.in/eVpRKS2D #nice #emeabsc #worldobesityday References Phelps et al. Obesity is a multifaceted issue that our society is dealing with and it is never discussed. Whatever proposals there are to bring down the obesity levels seem to be all talk with zero action & hypothetical scenarios to simply educate people on obesity rather than directly addressing the root causes of a diet lacking nutrients and the availability of nutrient dense food to certain populations. I could not even find any updated information so who knows the levels at which American adults are obese in 2024, not to mention the prevalence of childhood obesity… this is actually insane! What is actually being done to prevent this 100% preventable disease that is silently killing Americans. As a public health graduate and nutrition advocate and coach this is actually mind boggling that as a society we’ve been let down so hard & there is nothing being done to address this public health threat. 40 states in the US where a minimum of 35% of the adult population is obese #obesityepidemic #americansareobese #publichealththreat #obesityispreventable #publichealthscience
