Today we spotlight Chef Richard Sandoval of Stoke & Rye at The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa. Not only is he a culinary icon, but also a dedicated philanthropist. Translating to "Long Live Bees" in Spanish, Chef Sandoval's initiative, Viva Abejas, is a multi-faceted program aimed at promoting bee conservation and sustainable agriculture practices. Each spring, Viva Abejas collaborates with local beekeeping organizations, environmental nonprofits, and sustainable agriculture advocates to raise awareness about the critical role of bees in our ecosystem. The project supports various activities such as beekeeping workshops, educational seminars for schools and communities, and the establishment of bee-friendly habitats in urban and rural areas. We are fortunate to contribute a small part to such an inspiring project to make a difference in our community and planet. Climate Journal: News to Make Waves wrote about Hometree partnership with The Canopy Sligo, as Szilvia Szabó writes: “The Canopy shopping centre in Sligo facilitated a unique collaboration when its owners decided to acquire nearly 90 acres of land for restoration to support Hometree, a charity dedicated to establishing and conserving permanent native woodland. Situated along the Easkey River in South Sligo, this land is a unique blend of peatland, blanket bog, pockets of ancient Hazelwood, and species-rich grassland. Ray Ó Foghlú, Hometree’s Development Lead, says: ‘We hope this location will become a showcase site for us and local landowners will see what is possible. We have plans for a farmer outreach programme here, providing information and financial support for woodland creation along the Easkey River, besides other educational and community programmes.’ Ray adds, that involving farmers is crucial to making this a reality. In the past 2.5 years, he has worked with hundreds of farmers on land restoration and biodiversity projects. ‘I believe observation is the beginning of devotion – you have to see it to fall in love with something. In this case, once we can make farmers see what they have on their farms and understand the benefits, it can change their perspective, and they could become advocates for nature with an additional sense of pride.’” Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/dH2zpRFz These are the unlikely alliances that are required to deliver transformational and inclusive change. Did you spot us at Keble College, Oxford during the Conservation Optimism summit? 👀 Our COO, Dr. C Elizabeth (Lizzie) Webber, attended the summit together with over 200 conservationists and enthusiasts from all over the world! The summit, now on its third iteration, brings together experts to share information and skills to participants. The organization aims to build a community that thrives on unity, drawing strength, resilience, and purpose from the commitment to conservation. 🌱 "One of the key takeaways that really resonated with me was hearing the Welsh phrase "Gwnewch y pethau bychain mewn bywyd," meaning "do the little things in life." It’s a powerful reminder that each of us can make a difference by focusing on our part in the bigger picture—find your thing and do it well. Whether it’s facilitating human-wildlife coexistence and supporting community stewardship, providing evidence for conservation actions, empowering our actions by embracing our emotions or improving biodiversity and sustainable sourcing in business —ask yourself, what am I responsible for?" - Dr. Lizzie Webber #TrunksandLeaves #COSummit24 #HopeForTheFuture #NatureConservation #AsianElephant #Elephant #Nonprofit #WildlifeNonProfit #GlobalConservation

At the Golden Bottle Trust (GBT), the Hoare family uses a philanthropic profiling tool called Care4Most (www.care4most.org) to establish which causes mean the most to family members. Recently, the GBT’s focus on environmental projects intensified, with the funding target rising from 11% in 2018 to 20% in 2022. To maximise its impact, the GBT partnered with Impatience Earth to develop an 'ecosystem granting' strategy. This approach uses multiple smaller grants to address the interconnected nature of environmental issues, supporting solutions from the planting and preservation of seagrass to regenerative agriculture. It’s a big day at Aviva Canada as we, in partnership with WWF-Canada, proudly launch the Business and Biodiversity Action Plan. 🌳📘 Our economy is dependent on nature, with at least half of the world’s wealth being moderately or highly dependent on thriving ecosystems. Yet the rapid decline of wildlife populations by 69% in the last 50 years is a stark reminder of the urgent need for action. Every Canadian business, across all industries, plays a pivotal role in this mission. Our Action Plan, offered as a free resource, outlines pragmatic steps towards fostering a healthier natural world and driving sustainable economic growth. 🌎 This journey is more than conservation; it's about transforming into an organization that positively impacts nature. ➡️ Read the full Action Plan here: wwf.ca/actionplan ➡️ Discover more about the initiative: https://lnkd.in/enrsykXx

A wonderful milestone achieved by our charity partner The National Forest Company – they have reached a remarkable 25% forest cover, following three decades of environmental regeneration. Over 200 square miles of once scarred post-industrial landscape is now a vibrant forest of over 9.5 million trees; enhancing the landscape, creating wildlife habitats and spaces for wellbeing and recreation. As the forest flourishes, it’s encouraging to hear that wildlife and biodiversity is making a remarkable recovery, bucking the trend of species declines nationally; woodland species such as sparrowhawk, brown long-eared bat and speckled wood butterfly are seeing particular increases, alongside the reintroduction of rare species such as dormice as habitats are reconnected. We think you’ll agree that this is welcome news in a world that is facing fierce environmental challenges.
