2 years ago for a class project we were assigned to make a movie poster, so I decided to do one for Robert Eggers' "The Lighthouse", and just over 2 years later, I had the honour of interviewing Jarin Blaschke, the cinematographer who shot the film.
It was awesome to learn more about cinematography from Jarin, and the podcast is certainly one I will remember.

Director's Statement:
"Tweet's story is synonymous with so many young, diverse people seeking to identify their purpose in uncomfortable spaces. TRUFFLE SAUCE visually dives into a very intimate place, dealing with personal traumas, tribulations and the affects of mental instability. My hope as a director is that viewers see nuances of themselves within our protagonist. Someone who is flawed, yet continuously stands firm when faced with their truths."

Interview with House of the Dragon and Fallout Cinematographer Alejandro Martinez 🎬
One of the most thrilling aspects of "House of the Dragon" is undoubtedly the dragons. Alejandro reveals the challenges and excitement of bringing these mythical creatures to life. Alejandro Martinez vividly recounts the filming of a captivating scene in "House of the Dragon" where Daemon is perched atop Caraxes amidst the mountains, threatening the Brackens. This scene, surprisingly, was filmed on location. Alejandro fondly recalls discussing with his team how stunning the location was, to the point it looked like green screen. "People are gonna think we shot this in the studio and then composed the background, but no, that was all location," he emphasizes, noting that aside from the dragon, everything was shot in-camera, including the weather conditions.
The production involved meticulous planning, especially for scenes featuring dragons. Alejandro explains that they start with storyboarding the scene and then proceed to finding the perfect location. They use previsualization to animate the scene, ensuring every detail, including the spatial footprint of the dragon, is accurate. For instance, in scenes with Caraxes, they had to account for its long neck and determine the exact positions for Daemon and the dragon's head. "There's a lot of prep in that, involving the spatial footprint of the dragon, how it will react within the scene," he notes.

Being in prep of a feature, one thing's become clear: a powerful Director/DoP collaboration is key! Below, my latest blog post with some reflections & strategies to elevate your film's visual language: #filmmaking#cinematography#collaboration
“When I first read it, I was so excited about how little dialogue is in the film. It’s all voiceover. Normally, when you shoot a scene in a narrative film, you’re shooting actors predominantly talking to each other. And this film…on the set it was quite a quiet place. Which is really, really interesting. And it changes the dynamic enormously.”
