As Disability Pride Month comes to a close, we want to remind everyone to keep disability representation, accessibility, and inclusion in mind all year round. 🙌 July is a great time to remember and honor the work of the disability community. But, we encourage you to invest and support the disability community all months of the year. How can you make your environment more accessible? How can you take the labor off of disabled folks and teach non-disabled people about ableism and stigma? What disabled voices, authors, thinkers, artists, etc. will you want to uplift? How will you do your part for the next 11 months? Share your ideas in the comments 💬 Flag created by Ann Magil Image description: Disability Pride Flag. grey background with green, light blue, white, yellow, and red diagonal lines. #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityPrecarityMonth #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityInclusion

Did you know at least 1-in-4 adults in the United States has some type of disability? Every July we celebrate Disability Pride Month which marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This month is an opportunity to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community. We’d also like to highlight Open Hearth’s Continuum of Care Permanent Supportive Housing program (CoC), in which all 75 participating households are headed by a person with a disability. To qualify for CoC, an individual or family must be experiencing homelessness at entry into the program. Unfortunately, people with disabilities are over represented within the homeless community. Let’s celebrate Disability Pride Month by supporting a future where individuals with disabilities are not disproportionately affected by homelessness. #DisabilityPride #OpenHearth #PermanentSupportiveHousing

July is Disability Pride Month. This month, especially, I encourage you to take a moment to consider how you support the disabled community in your everyday life and work. Is your organization pushing out videos on your platforms with captions for the Deaf community? Are your offices/facilities wheelchair accessible? Do your hiring policies allow accommodations to employ a wide range of qualified individuals? Do you have processes in place to accommodate interpretation for the Deaf community? Do you have print resources available in Braille for the Blind community? Are your products accessible for those with limited fine motor ability? Do you follow disabled content creators online? Do you read books authored by disabled people who share their lived experiences? Do you read books with your children/littles in your life about disability? Disability is not a subject to be ignored! We all must know how to support and interact with disabled people in a way that honors their humanity. Also, look for opportunities to support your local disabled community - such as ARC of McLennan County, Friends for Life Waco, No Limitations Waco, Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network, Mobilize Waco, Special Olympics Heart of Texas, and Bitty & Beau's Coffee - to name a few. This list isn't exhaustive. Please ask if you have questions about these suggestions or would like book recommendations. I am happy to share what resources I have in my collection as a mom of a disabled toddler who is constantly learning to better advocate for her and others. #inclusionmatters #disabilitypride #disabilityisntabadword

I use fiction to tell the truth | Influencer | Writer & Film Director | Disability Representation Consultant
Equitable disability representation matters. So how do we get it? There are a number of barriers that prevent disability representation, and more than prevent what representation there is from being equitable. But one way we can ensure good disability representation is to equip disabled filmmakers to tell their story. Here's an opportunity to do so: https://lnkd.in/gE6EXFiz #UnderTheLights #SeedAndSpark #DisabilityRepresentation #Epilepsy #CameronBoyce #MilesLevin #VanishingAngle #Movie #EpilepsyAwareness #Epislepsy #pearceJoza #seizure #SeizureAwareness

The dominant colors in the image are white and green, with accents of dark green. The main focus of the image is on three individuals - all smiling for the camera. Overall, this group seems happy and relaxed as they pose together for their profile photo. They stand against an abstract background that features shades of blue and purple along with geometric shapes.
