Did you know that instead of purchasing food at retail rates, we collaborate with the California Association of Food Banks, major retailers, USDA government assistance programs, growers, distributors and fellow food banks to secure wholesome food? When you contribute financially, you enable us to offer a greater quantity of nutritious groceries compared to donating store-bought food. 🥑 Thanks to our capacity to harness large-scale food donations, bulk purchasing capabilities, and the dedication of volunteers, every $1 donation empowers us to supply enough food for two meals. Help us fill tables this holiday season and beyond. If we can raise $1,000,000 from our community between now and December 25, The Benificus Foundation will match the amount. Double your impact: https://shfb.online/b9bd77

Bees are good for coffee producers, their families and communities in coffee-growing regions. These regions are good sites for honey bees, as plant diversity within the coffee farm offers excellent floral resources for honeybees. Coffee flowers produce sugary, high quality nectar, and bees improve coffee berry ripening, size and uniformity with their cross-pollination. Bees do not require land ownership, can be maintained by family members, and the many products from bee colonies serve as the local pharmacy. Products can be sold locally or internationally exported alongside coffee. Most importantly, bee products improve family nutrition and provide additional income for coffee farmers. This season, give the gift of beekeeping to families in coffee-growing communities. A $150 donation will provide a family with 1 new beehive box. Are our chickens free range? The answer is no, because we have predators around that will pick them off easily if we make them truly free range. We keep them in a predator-proof enclosure day and night, and let them out under supervision to forage. "Free range" in commercial egg laying is not very well-enforced or well-defined. When you see those words on an egg carton, it could mean the chickens are still in small cages most of the time, or it could mean they are in cages all of the time, but have more space than might be typical for egg layers. The reality is that if it is labeled "free range" it may not be what you think it is. Someday, there may be more clarity on the definition of free range. There are many things that aren't ideal about commercial egg laying, so we limit our egg use, or use egg substitutes, so that we don't have to buy eggs from commercial operations.
