Learn more about a new project on policies, programs, and investments to better understand the landscape of breastfeeding promotion, initiation, and support across the United States. A committee of experts has been named to provide an evidence-based analysis of the macroeconomic, social, and health costs and benefits of the United States' current breastfeeding rates and goals. The study will build on what is known about inequalities in breastfeeding rates and reducing racial, geographic, and income-related breastfeeding disparities. Tamil Nadu Alliance for Development of Community Medicine (TADCOM) recently organized a CME on "Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding for All" and I was fortunate to be a part. The sessions were taken by the subject experts and was an expedient experience for me. "Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding for All" is a vital initiative aimed at addressing disparities in breastfeeding practices and support. This webinar focused on the importance of breastfeeding for both maternal and child health, emphasizing equitable access to breastfeeding resources, education, and support for all families, regardless of socio-economic background. By bringing together healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community advocates, the webinar aimed to create actionable strategies to ensure every mother has the opportunity to breastfeed successfully, thereby promoting healthier communities worldwide. #TADCOM #CME #doctors #community #breastfeeding #tamilnadu #publichealth

In case you missed it, our Chief Executive/Founder was quoted in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) Maternal Health Alliance Compendium, released earlier this year, in reference to PUSH’s mission and working together to mitigate the maternal health crisis. “The mission of PUSH is to provide a trusted partnership and support system for women, moms, and families through all phases of pregnancy, including pre-conception and postpartum. Our program is built on the foundation of Community Health Workers with continued growth as an integrated approach to care. This consists of CHWs, doulas, midwives, and public health practitioners working collaboratively with clinical and medical providers. One of the challenges that we have experienced is connecting with the hospital system. As we know, the work that we do, no single community-based organization can do it alone.” Link to the full report: https://lnkd.in/gsgPMBq5

📢 CHCF recently published the 2023 Maternity Care Almanac, which provides an overview of the delivery of maternity care in California, using the most recent data. 🏥 Among the findings, the report found that in 2022, nearly 46,000 women of childbearing age found themselves in counties devoid of hospitals offering obstetrics care or birth centers. An additional 76,000 lived in areas with just a single facility providing these critical services. This is more than a statistic. It's a clear indication of the disparities that exist in our health care system, particularly affecting Californians in rural areas. We're committed to ensuring that every Californian has access to the care they need—this includes robust maternal health services. We believe that geography should not be a barrier to receiving quality health care. 👉 See the full report. https://lnkd.in/gzPde9eA #HealthEquity #MaternalHealth #CaliforniaHealthcare #AccessToCare

After reading the information provided in this post, there is a visible disparity that exists in the California health care system. As seen in the graphic, much of California has moderate to no access to hospitals with Obstetrics Care or Birth Centers. This specifically holds true in the Central Valley. The Central Valley is home to many individuals of disadvantaged status merely due to their socioeconomic state, educational attainment, and citizenship distinction. As the discussion of rural health is increasing in importance, it would be interesting to see how many more rural Californians will be able to receive the maternity care necessary over the next several years.

It can be stressful to deal with sleep disruptions every night, which is why you may start to doubt the benefits of nursing. However, midnight breastfeeding is crucial for your infant's health and your milk supply, for example: High prolactin levels at night aid in establishing an optimal milk supply. Why? Because more prolactin is produced at night, so breastfeeding at night is especially helpful for keeping up the milk supply. Prolactin seems to make a mother feel relaxed and sleepy, so she usually rests well even if she breastfeeds at night. 🤰 The Pillars of Safe Motherhood: Ensuring a Healthy Start for Every Mother and Child🤰Safe motherhood is a global, all encompassing essential practices and principles to ensure the health and well-being of mothers and their children. Here are the key pillars that support this mission : 1. Antenatal Care: Regular check-ups during pregnancy are vital to monitor the health of both mother and baby, manage any complications, and provide crucial education on nutrition, exercise, and childbirth preparation. 2. Skilled Care During Childbirth: Access to trained healthcare professionals during delivery ensures that any complications can be managed promptly and effectively, reducing the risk of maternal and neonatal mortality. 3. Emergency Obstetric Care: Timely access to advanced medical interventions is critical when complications arise during pregnancy or childbirth. This includes access to facilities capable of performing cesarean sections and managing severe bleeding or infections. 4. Postnatal Care: The period following childbirth is crucial for the health of both mother and baby. Regular postnatal visits help identify and manage any health issues, support breastfeeding, and provide necessary vaccinations and care. 5. Family Planning: Empowering women with the knowledge and resources to plan their families helps reduce the risks associated with closely spaced pregnancies and supports the health of mothers and their children.… And much more…By strengthening these pillars, we POHEI ng can work towards a world where every mother and child has the chance to thrive. Let’s champion safe motherhood for a brighter future! 💪👶#SafeMotherhood #MaternalHealth #AntenatalCare #PostnatalCare #FamilyPlanning #Healthcare #MotherAndChild #WomensHealth #pohei
