Lead Midwife @ANC with Damithemidwife. Maternity Hub. Virtual Antenatal Class || Founder and Lead Facilitator, Future Forward Nurses
Empowering Maternal Health: My Journey in Midwifery and Beyond. My journey into the world of midwifery began during my time at the College of Nursing, Saki, where I earned my diploma in Nursing. It was during our clinical rotations in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department that I discovered my passion for midwifery. My ultimate goal has always been to make a significant impact in reducing maternal mortality and neonatal morbidity rates. Over the past five years, I have been dedicated to this mission, and here are some of the ways through which I've contributed: Volunteering at the Primary Health Centre in Ogbomoso as a registered Nurse-Midwife since 2019, I have taken charge of their Maternal Unit. Here, I provide essential health education to pregnant women, covering topics such as nutrition, pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum care. Additionally, I diligently monitor labor and delivery using the partograph. Online, I offer coaching sessions to pregnant women through my Telegram and WhatsApp pages. I provide guidance on pregnancy-related matters, including nutrition and exercise. I serve as a guide for expectant mothers and fathers, helping them make informed decisions in cases of complications that require urgent attention, such as placental abruption, prolonged labor, complicated presentation, distress etc. One of my priorities is ensuring that pregnant women register for antenatal clinics. This step is crucial for proper care and management throughout pregnancy, leading to positive pregnancy outcomes. I emphasize the importance of preparation and knowledge for both mothers and fathers, highlighting the significance of understanding the conception process, as well as the critical stages during labor and delivery. These actions represent my dedication to improving maternal and neonatal health, and I remain committed to this noble cause. #NurseO #Damithemidwife #Midwifery #linkedinbranding

The US is struggling with a high maternal death Midwife care can improve pregnancy outcomes for mothers and babies, says new “Expert Review” from Yale faculty The practice of midwifery is less common in the United States than in other countries and other cultures, which is a shame because adding care by midwives generally improves childbirth outcomes, according to two Yale faculty members who have published an “Expert Review” article on the topic in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Caesarean section can be beneficial if it is medically indicated; however, it could also be harmful and even increase the chance of maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity if it is done without careful consideration. The rates of caesarean section have increased globally even more than the maximum standard which has been set by the World Health Organization (WHO) in some countries, and unfortunately, some of them were not medically indicated. To answer this challenge, WHO has recommended implementing a care model primarily managed by midwives as a strategic approach to reduce the rate of caesarean sections; however, existing evidence remains unclear if a midwife-led care model is associated with the chance of physiological birth. This systematic review aimed to answer that question. Impact of the midwife-led care model on mode of birth: a systematic review and meta-analysis | British Journal of Midwifery, Vol. 32 No.7 https://lnkd.in/gzHr_E-U Thanks to my super team from Indonesia and the Philippines for this hard work! Alhamdulillaah.
