With regards to the environment, one of the most impactful things we as humans do is habitat destruction. Sure, you moved to the cool new "green" building on the edge of town, but how much were ecological flows that collectively, sans changes in perturbation routine, might have evolved to handle routine climate impacts, ephemerally busted up by its construction? I see bacteria evolve to handle the craziest stress in the lab, all the time, but that doesn't make them any more resilient to /novel/ stress, on average. Getting our growth rate in check — and heck, not changing the "single" rate? — will better enable science and industry and ecology alike to handle and to correct what impacts we still have, beyond habitat destruction. https://lnkd.in/ghsRN5pm
