A career as a long-haul driver can provide job security, a promising career trajectory, or job autonomy. However, it also has its tradeoffs with a busy schedule taking a driver far from home that can often overlap holidays or special occasions. That didn’t deter one of our long-haul drivers from taking the leap from a career in customer service to transporting chemicals in this article. https://lnkd.in/eFEjnHkb

Truck Budiness Better ‼️☕️🤔 We talk and talk about these issues for years. It’s never really changed. Why? That’s the question I suggest needs answered. And if; and it’s a big “IF” and reason or reasons could be identified? Who is really willing to spend the money teaching, training and putting in place protocols that lead to improved prevention? The struggle with the cost of prevention is people can’t recognize what the return on the investment is. Because if you prevent a problem our minds think there was never a problem and the cost of prevention was money wasted. It’s a difficult problem. I suggest companies have someone other than the driver conduct the pre & post trip inspections. A great time to do this is to schedule having the equipment washed and then trip inspected and the preventive repairs done at that time. It won’t be easy Gary Buchs Truck business coaching

Rob's half#&@ inspection of the SambaSafety or Embark Safety truck. I call it that because this carrier's continuous monitoring system reported that this driver's CDL was revoked while the truck was being operated today. They called and asked if I could meet the driver and get the truck, so here we are doing a little mud truck half#&@ inspection of some items on this thing once we get it back. It would be OOS had it been pulled over for a roadside. 🤦♂️TAKEAWAYS....🚛 ✔️🔥It's the carrier's responsibility to ensure that they are employing and hiring qualified drivers. While only initial and annual MVR monitoring is required, it's not enough. Continuous license monitoring ensures your trucks legally operate on the highway with qualified drivers. ✔️Ensure your vehicles are being properly and thoroughly inspected. 🚨First, by your Frontline driver before and after their trip and in route. 🚨Second, by your fleet management team during PM intervals. 🚨Third, by management. That's right if your vehicles are on your terminal lot. Walk the lot. We're all human. Drivers and fleets can miss things. As ops management, know the condition of your fleet. ✔️🔥Make sure DVIRs are being completed when there is a defect, even if that's a roadside inspection/violation discovered defect. Make sure your DVIR system is compliant with three signatures. Motive has a great product for this, as does Fleetio, and both are integrated, and it cuts out the room for error that paper leaves on the table. 🚨One signature for the discovering driver, 🚨Second signature citing the repair is complete (which should include a work order stating who repaired, what repair was done, when, and with what parts) 🚨Third signature for the next person to operate the vehicle position repair corroborating the repair was complete and proper. (This is in no way a thorough inspection. I'm not getting completely muddy for you people. A huge piece we didn't cover and may in a future full, complete inspection is in-cab, especially air brake testing for the buzzer, and air loss in general and overall function.) #riskmitigation #exposuremanagement #fleetmanagement #preventativemaintenance #predictivemaintenance #qualifications #hiring #screening #humanresources
