There's a lot going on in AI, but here's something you should pay attention to. There's been a breakthrough in our understanding of the biological world and drug discovery - AlphaFold3 is a new AI model developed by Google DeepMind and Isomorphic Labs and it can now accurately predict the structures and interactions of nearly all of life’s molecules including proteins, DNA, RNA, ligands and more. When people think about AI-intensive industries, they tend to think about traditional tech. That may be true when talking about model-builders but the real magic is going to come as these tools are used in non-traditional tech fields. The pharmaceutical industry is a great reminder of that. There is a project underway to help us better understand how AI and other significant technologies spread through the economy and which firms and industries are leading the way. Microsoft's new EvoDiff protein sequence diffusion system made some headlines a couple weeks ago, but I actually wanted to put it to use and see how it works.
