Last week, our company had the honour of hosting Members of the European Parliament at our geothermal power plant in Insheim. The visit was organised by Vulcan in collaboration with EGEC (European Geothermal Energy Council). Among the visitors were Professor Krasnodebski (MEP), rapporteur for the European Parliament's Own-Initiative Report on geothermal, and Pernille Weiss MEP, shadow rapporteur for the EPP group. The MEPs visited our plant to learn more about the potential of geothermal energy and net zero carbon lithium extraction in Europe. In November, Berlin set out a vision to boost the country’s geothermal potential tenfold to 10 terawatt-hours and add another 100 geothermal projects in the country by 2030. Vulcan has already signed a deal with Germany's fifth biggest utility firm MVV Energie AG Energy, for at least 240 gigawatt hours per year of geothermal energy starting in 2025, enough to supply 25,000 households. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to showcase our work and raise awareness among the MEPs about the importance of projects like ours. Many thanks to the Members of the European Parliament for their interest. Dr. Horst Kreuter, CEO and Co-Founder of Vulcan, also spoke at the European Parliament's "Geothermal Own-Initiative (INI) Report Executive Hearing" yesterday on October 10. Is Enhanced Geothermal Energy the missing piece to the puzzle? Tanner Sattler’s latest blog might help you decide. Read here: https://lnkd.in/gfHu_ZuS Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) reutilizes the experience forged in the crucible of responsible oil and gas production. It may be another one of the energy source technologies that we can help prove the power and usefulness of, but it requires a better understanding and further investment. This budding energy movement is taking place while still maintaining older energy sources to bridge the economic barriers and fuel further technological advancements. If you’re interested or pursuing Enhanced Geothermal Systems, let us know! Tanner Sattler and Colleen Euclide will be at Geothermal Rising next week in Reno, Nevada. Make sure to reach out if you are planning to attend. #geothermalenergy #geothermalrising #newblog #EGS #TakingEnergyForward

The biggest geothermal project in the world, The Geysers in California, is hardly visible from the air. You need to really zoom in on Google maps to see it. 🔎 This is a quote from an article I read recently and it got me thinking. The fact that geothermal heat and power plants has such a small footprint is both a blessing and a curse. It's obviously great for the environment and for neighbouring inhabitants. But it's not always working in our favour as we work to increase awareness of geothermal energy. You could live close to a plant and hardly know about it! The installed capacity of The Geysers is 700-900 MW (different sources give somewhat different numbers), which is huge. That´s roughly 20-25% of the total installed capacity of the US, 3.9 GW. What do you think about geothermal's low-visibility factor: a blessing or a curse? #energy #renewableenergy #geothermal
