This year, our passion for innovation and technology is taking a dedicated step towards helping develop VR-based therapy for children. Did you know that nearly 14% of children in the Netherlands are associated with some form of therapy before their 18th birthday? That's almost half a million children! 🤯 That's why 20 of our Ciphians are training hard with the goal to raise awareness and donations for this cause by running in the Rotterdam Marathon. 📢 And this is where you come in! Selective mutism is a type of anxiety disorder where children do not speak in certain settings. For example, a child speaks at home, but doesn't speak at school. This affects all areas of their lives, which has a knock-on effect in regards to their development and learning. Through Virtual Reality (VR)-therapy, children can undergo exposure therapy and overcome these situations to eventually regain their ability to speak. What makes VR such a great tool is the complete customisability in such that you can virtually create any situation by which a child can practice and overcome their fears. A beautiful initiative in which we want to make a difference! 💞

Science helps us to understand the origins, characteristics, and consequences of global problems. Being a desirable country to live comes with significant challenges. One of the most pressing is gentrification, which is reaching critical levels and causing severe societal impacts. For Costa Rica, a major consequence is the influx of cash into the country for large-scale land purchases and second-home construction. This has led to a 25% depreciation of the US dollar against the Costa Rican Colón. Those earning in dollars are particularly hard hit, as their expenses are in the local currency. Additionally, tourists and the export sector are feeling the pinch, with their purchasing power reduced by a quarter in an already expensive country. The University for International Cooperation recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and is now poised to address the monumental challenge of educating a new generation of professionals, whom we call "First Responders for Regeneration." To undertake this crucial mission, we urgently need financial support. These regenerators are essential worldwide. To facilitate this, we have established a new scholarship fund. However, this perspective can be misleading and counterproductive. We must prioritize quality over quantity regarding our work/progress in life. While working long hours can demonstrate commitment and effort, it doesn’t guarantee productivity or meaningful results. The quality of time we dedicate to completing our task is an indicator of success than the sheer quantity of hours logged. Make judicious use of your time while you remain focused on the goal.
