Leading with Inclusion: A People and Culture Perspective on International Women’s Day As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it’s crucial to reflect on the progress made towards gender equality while recognising the work that still lies ahead. This year’s theme: “Inspire Inclusion”, underscores the importance of creating environments where women feel valued, empowered and included at every level of the company. From the perspective of People and Culture, I think companies can champion inclusion and support women’s advancement in the workplace by: 1. building inclusive policies and practices. 2. empowering women in leadership 3. creating a future of belonging 4. cultivating a culture of inclusion 5. encouraging diverse perspectives and celebrating diversity 6. continuously improving and learning. As People managers, associates, specialists, officers, …, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to lead by example, advocate for change, and create environments where all individuals can thrive. Almost all the time, women get equal opportunity at work. No one at work really wants to lose an eligible employee or mistreat an eligible employee just because of a different gender. If we have fewer women in workplaces or fewer women in leadership roles, the problem lies in the society and families where women live. Here are 3 ways to ensure women have equal opportunities at work: 1. Be responsible at home: -- Don't expect her to do all chores. -- Involve yourself equally in preparing meals for your family. -- Divide responsibilities for children and older members of the family equally. 2. Be flexible: -- Let her attend meetings from home when required. -- Don't complain if she gets late from work occasionally. -- Let her participate in career-related events on weekends too. 3. Give importance to her career: -- Let her decide her own career path. -- Respect her opinions in major decisions. -- Encourage her to restart when she fails.

Betty Friedan and the National Organization for Women spearheaded a monumental Women’s Strike for Equality in 1970 – the largest protest for gender equality in U.S. history. Imagine, more than 100,000 women across cities and towns, marching together to demand equal opportunities in education and employment. And they made history! ENGIE celebrates the advancement of women’s rights in all areas of life, acknowledging that there is still much progress and work to be done. We're committed to balance, aiming for 50% women managers by 2030. We're also all about fairness at work and saying no to sexism and violence against women.
