5 lessons from 5 years at Quantico/RORA Lesson 2: Don't listen to advice, listen to the universe If I had £1 for every time someone gave me their unsolicited business advice, I have like at least £50 But if I had listened to every bit of unsolicited advice - I wouldn’t have a company to start with When I started with Quantico I was so unsure of myself and vulnerable that I hoovered up as much advice I could get and it almost killed my business It resulted in me making choices that weren't right for me. I fell out of love with business and as a result, my customers and employees did too. My dreams almost died on that I got advised to: 😮charge more for strategic advisory 😣 remove the FinOps Manager level to focus more on the higher revenue FinOps Lead 😩 invest in marketing for statutory accounts services The advice I was given wasn’t bad advice. It was great for someone wanting to start an accounting firm, but that wasn’t my goal, I wanted something better It took some time but I realised that my company needed to built my way So take unsolicited advice with a grain, or even a kilo, of salt. If it doesn’t add value, ignore it And yes, you can even ignore this advice too - it’s your mission, do it your way
