Madrid bans e-scooters on all public transport - fines for those not adhering to the ban will be between €100 and €200. It affects the Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid buses, as well as interurban and urban buses in other municipalities, the Metro de Madrid, S.A. network, light rail, and five interchange areas. Barcelona's Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM) has also temporarily prohibited traveling with e-scooters on public transport for safety reasons. Transport is changing and business models need to change too. Innovate UK’s Innovation Lead, Mobility and Cities, Sophie Randall, outlines how the changes we’re already seeing in transport – car clubs, rental bikes, scooter schemes – have an implication on associated business models. Our approach to travel will become more service-based over time and other changes like a focus on the environment and the importance of accessibility will also lead to changes in business models. A business model embracing a reduction in carbon footprints will appeal to customers. A business model that considers the unique characteristics of different groups will help to open up new markets.
