Performance and technology creator, currently working on the Acrobot
I'm SO HAPPY to annouunce that The Acrobot, my robot circus project that I've been working on for the past 2 years, has made it on to America's Got Talent!
You can watch it online: https://lnkd.in/eS5E7mtJ
This has been an incredible collaboration with V2_, Lab for the Unstable Media, Circusstad Festival, Sebastian Kuhz, Mila Baumann, Esmee van der Ster.
And it's only the beginning! We're looking for new stages, new funding, new robots and new team members, so let me know if you want to take part in some way :)
The EPSRC funded EMERGENCE Healthcare Technologies Network are holding a webinar to showcase the work of trailblazer projects addressing robotics for frailty challenges on Thursday 18th July from 13:00 – 16:00.
Find out more and register to attend here: https://lnkd.in/eZYjvN4E
This is an exciting opportunity to hear from all the project teams currently funded by the Robotics for Frailty Challenge funding calls and consider the implications of their research for the future of the design and development of intelligent systems and robotics for health and social care.

🚀 The new season of the Autoware Challenge is coming up! 🚀
The Autoware Challenge 2024 (sponsored by TIER IV) will begin on June 1 and continue until January 31, 2025.
🌍 Like last year, the Autoware Challenge invites everyone worldwide to look at the challenges the #Autoware software faces and explore solutions for them.
📈 Autoware is growing and getting better every day. Along the way, we constantly identify improvements to be made to the Autoware software that stem from real-world use cases and cover the entire autonomous driving software components. By participating in the Autoware Challenge, you can propose tangible solutions to challenges in sensing, perception, localization, planning, and control tasks.
Like last year, Autoware Challenge 2024 offers monetary prizes to the winners.🏆
🥇 1st Prize: 15,000 USD
🥈 2nd Prize: 7,000 USD
🥉 3rd Prize: 3,500 USD
💪 Are you up for a challenge? Let’s go!

I've spent a big chunk of my career working on BBC Dragons' Den, a programme I was passionate about from an early age as it showcased the best of British innovation.
My main responsibility was to find the talented entrepreneurs to take part. I would always try to focus on cutting edge technology and genuinely exciting inventions - as this is what would excite me as a young teen viewer.
Easier said than done when working with startups at a very specific growth phase that make them suitable candidates for the show. (Most tech companies would be too early for an engaging demo, or would be too valuable for the level of investment available on DD.)
I was proud to recruit Chang Liu from Extend Robotics to take part. After a few touch and go moments on the day, we managed to pull off a complicated demonstration of his VR control software that allows remote operation of robot arms. Something with a huge range of potential applications in industrial, nuclear & surgical sectors. Although on the day we used it to pour a beer...
The conversation focussed on big picture challenges humanity will face in the future, such as labour shortages due to ageing populations, and how this type of tech might help. Unusual for the show, but it worked really well. That's what I like to push for in my work, something outside the box, broad in scope & intellectually stimulating.
Extend Robotics successfully won an offer of investment for £150 000 from Peter Jones and the pitch was included in Episode 1 of that series. Well done Chang!
Full pitch here:
Hello everyone,
I recently tried animating robots and it was a very interesting and exciting experience. While animating robots may seem simple at first glance, in reality, it requires a lot of creativity, patience, and attention to detail.
One of the challenges I faced was finding references for the typical gait of a robot. If anyone knows of any good resources or sources where I can find these references, please let me know.
Thank you for your attention)
We're thrilled to have the honour of welcoming Marta Bernardino to our panel at MWC Barcelona tomorrow! 🎉
Marta, an extraordinary 18-year-old Portuguese robotics student, is set to inspire us all with her passion for robotics, as well as her unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on our planet. 🌍
What drives Marta? It's her belief in the game-changing potential robotics has to transform lives on a global scale. With a keen eye for state-of-the-art hardware and a love for problem-solving, Marta sees endless opportunities to create meaningful change in the world.
In her own words, "I have a passion that keeps me excited – robotics – and a goal that keeps me on track: to impact the world. This way I make sure I am never bored or lost."
But that's not all – Marta has also designed something truly remarkable: Trovador, the ingenious tree-planting robot. 🌳🤖 Trovador isn't just any robot – it's highly efficient, adaptive, and a game-changer in the fight against deforestation. With a staggering 90% increase in efficiency compared to traditional methods, Trovador can plant trees 500% faster than human workers, and it's also 100% adaptive to any surface and terrain. Mind-blowing, isn't it!?
Join us tomorrow as we hear more about Marta's incredible journey of innovation. This is one panel you won't want to miss! 12:00 CET on the Agora Stage, Hall 8.0 – 4YFN & Partner Theatres.

By 2021 Disney completed a more than 3 years process for the development of a #robot able to perform up to 6 different stunts for emulate Spider-man.
This reminds me the “Westworld” approach to the futuristics amusement (theme) parks as a first approach to other future uses of this kind of #technology
I also think about the human-like appearing robots and what will happen if they are completed with smart reasoning cores. Will we see them as a part of our society?. Seen our trend to “humanize” animals and objects, are we ready to live with these machines with no emotional implication?
It is an interesting #future in front of us
