Back home from the Data Innovation Summit 2024 in Stockholm, and I'm still processing all the incredible conversations and learning 🤯. A big thank you to the team at Hyperight AB for organizing such a inspiring event 🙌. It was great to reconnect with old colleagues and to meet new professionals who are also navigating the challenges of making AI practical and valuable in real-world applications 🌍. We shared stories about our journeys towards making AI not just advanced, but also adoptable and useful. 🚀 “Thirty years ago, who would have thought we could work from home, place pharmacy orders on a computer, or even organize an international competition with live presentations without flying? Our way of working has been transformed by new technologies, today a new revolution awaits us: that of #ArtificialIntelligence.🌐”   It's with pride and a touch of nostalgia that I think back to these introductory words I shared in July, at the close of our ideas competition using generative AI #AIGenAward. This was my first project with my new team, and what a team it was! 🤝 Together, we helped explore the possibilities of generative AI in the Commercial Supply Chain, in a new way. All with “du plaisir, du plaisir et du plaisir”, to quote Marie Gevrin. 🎤 We saw our colleagues get together, brainstorm and present innovative ideas. Ahead of the ALPSP conference, where AI will be a hot topic, we thought we'd share how 67 Bricks helped AIP Publishing (AIPP) validate assumptions, test ideas, and generate new product concepts with the power of generative AI (GenAI). 🔍 Challenge: AIPP had a wealth of untapped data but didn’t know how to start leveraging it. They suspected they were missing valuable insights and patterns across author data and operational systems like JIRA and Freshdesk. 🧪 The Experiments: - Author Relationships: Using a graph database, we uncovered hidden connections between authors, identifying "power collaborators" and potential partnerships that AIPP hadn't spotted before. - Operational Data: By analyzing ticketing data, we revealed process inefficiencies and discovered system improvements to enhance future data capture. ✅ Outcomes: Within a short time, AIPP unlocked insights from their existing data and discovered a fresh approach to problem-solving. As Waylon I Butler, Director of Data and Analytics at AIPP, put it: “one does not need a big project that is extensively planned – just get the data, some expertise, and some curiosity together, ask questions, then repeat on a short cadence." What a fantastic experience at IIEX in Amsterdam! Returning to face-to-face interactions was truly invigorating. Here are my top takeaways: 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁: The event was dominated by discussions on AI, showcasing a Cambrian explosion of applications from verbatim analysis and flavour prediction to more complex tools like qualitative moderation and survey scripting. The potential for AI to transform our methodologies by merging qualitative and quantitative research is both exciting and overwhelming. 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: Behavioral Science (BeSci) provided a critical lens through which the power of AI was examined. Talks highlighted how AI could tap into System 1 thinking, uncover hidden heuristics, and go beyond traditional survey attitudes. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆: As AI continues to commoditize data collection, the true competitive edge lies not just in technology but in our ability to synthesize and communicate insights effectively. Emphasizing empathy in our work ensures that as we leverage AI, we remain grounded in the human aspects of our research. 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The evolving landscape is a reminder that no single agency holds all the answers. Future success will depend on our ability to forge partnerships and collaborate across disciplines, blending AI, BeSci, and empathetic engagement to drive innovation. On the surface, IIEX was about AI, but dig a little deeper and there's more than just this trend redefining our industry. Already looking forward to what next year's event has in store.
