HMRI is proud to be leading the charge in regional Australia and launching May Measure Month, a global campaign encouraging people aged 18 to have their blood pressure checked. Hypertension (high blood pressure) is the number one cause of preventable death worldwide. Hypertension can put you at greater risk of chronic disease including stroke, heart disease, and dementia. Throughout May, June and July, our team will be out in the Hunter New England community offering free blood pressure checks - the first event will be at the Newcastle Knights v Bulldogs at McDonald Jones Stadium, Friday 31 May🏉 This morning we were thrilled to welcome "bp" heroes; musician, activist and TV personality Isaac Compton, musician, presenter and film producer Glenn Dormand (aka Chit Chat Von Loopin Stab), Business Hunter's Bob Hawes, Committee for the Hunter's Alice Thompson, City of Newcastle, Australia Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes to help us launch the event, alongside HMRI researchers and team members including Prof Doan Ngo, Prof Murray Cairns, Todd Williams FAICD, Giavanna Angeli, and Carol Duncan.
