Revisiting the animals we detect via satellite (and also aerial) imagery at EOLAS Insight Ltd and why: 🦌 Deer in Scotland: Understanding the density and distribution of deer populations is pivotal for effective conservation and management strategies. Traditionally, helicopter surveys have been the go-to method, but advancements in technology offer promising alternatives. By harnessing new tools, we can swiftly gather data over vast open landscapes, all while reducing carbon footprints and costs. 🐘 Elephants: These majestic beings are icons of the wild. We detect them to combat poaching, mitigate human-animal conflicts, map wildlife corridors, and deepen our knowledge of animal behaviour. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies, we can empower everyone to protect these gentle giants and their habitats. 🐄 Cows: Agricultural impacts on the environment must be monitored to ensure they can be mitigated, with a clear example being effects on our water quality. New and improved methods for monitoring the quality of our waters have become more important than ever. A detailed understanding of the location and quantity of livestock in relation to water is a critical factor. This same approach can be used to better understand the distribution for the analysis of disease impacts or to comprehend national-scale population trends. Embracing innovation in wildlife and livestock management not only enhances our ability to conserve biodiversity but also promotes sustainable coexistence between humans and the natural world. Let's continue to harness #techforgood and safeguard the wonders of our planet. #WildlifeConservation #Sustainability #Biodiversity #NatureProtection #satellite #space #environment #ai #earthobservation #wildlifemanagement #wildlife

How do you kick off 250 mile mapping survey for invasive aquatic plants? Step one is Aerial Shoreline Analysis (ASA) developed by my late friend Alan Cibuzar for nonpoint source pollution detection also does great job of locating aquatic plant communities. ASA flight protocols maximize water penetration, GPS camera locates imagery in GIS, GIS used to plot location of plant communities for boat investigation, boat team loads map and goes directly to the target, determines species present and updates GIS in the field. https://arcg.is/0q488W0 One day from flight to map, now lets get after it on the water

For me, the woods have always represented a sanctuary—a place to disconnect from screens and reconnect with the natural world. So it’s interesting to see that theme for #InternationalDayofForests 2024: "Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World." It got me thinking about what the intersection of nature and technology could look like. Consider the possibilities we’re already exploring: 🌳 Tools like the Reforestation Hub, developed by The Nature Conservancy and American Forests, map out cost-effective locations for forest restoration across the U.S. (https://lnkd.in/grPKRTKY) 🌲Advanced computer modeling and machine learning can support tree-planting initiatives by identifying a diverse set of native species best suited to unique local conditions, today and in a warming future 🌱 Seed-sowing drones offer a high-tech solution for reforestation, autonomously dispersing seeds in remote and challenging terrains 🛰️Satellite-based and on-site sensors provide real-time monitoring of young forests, ensuring their successful establishment and growth While these technologies don’t replace the wisdom and stewardship of indigenous and local communities in preserving and nurturing our forests, I do see the potential for technology to allow us to scale more quickly. This #ForestDay, I invite you to join me in recognizing the invaluable role forests play in sustaining life on our planet and in embracing innovative solutions to safeguard their future. #ForestConservation #NatureAndTech

Innovations where it matters most. Controlling external rodent infestation with permanent toxic rodenticide in line with CRRU guidelines and keeping non target species safe. The ONLY solution that allows this.
