It is perhaps a measure of our maturing as a nation that we are more prepared to own and accept the bits of our national narrative that are unsavoury and uncomfortable as much as we want to celebrate that which makes us proud and confident. Read more: https://hubs.li/Q02lrsCk0

This is heart breaking. But alas we need to be realistic, practical, pragmatic. We need to be hopeful. Inequality is rife on this planet. Lack of fairness is rife on this planet. The gap between those who have and those who don't is as wide as the oceans between continents. There seems to be war everywhere. #Freedom is nothing without being able to leave your home safely. #Freedom is nothing if your children cannot have a proper and decent education. #Freedom is nothing when you have no job and you cannot feed your family. #Freedom is nothing when you cannot rely on the police to serve their community ethically. #Freedom is nothing when government hospitals and clinics don't have the resources, the competence and the will to serve the sick and injured. #Freedom is nothing when the infrastructure is so broken that investment in the country is at an all-time low. The power is in the hands of those who lead their countries. The abuse of power goes back to the beginning of time. Irrespective of race, creed, colour, religion. The only common denominator is man with his greed and control. And here we are meant to be hopeful. Indeed place your cross on those ballot sheets. Make a difference in your heart. Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen- may only love and light travel across time and distance.
“A vote without food, shelter and healthcare would be to create the appearance of equality while actual inequality is entrenched. Assistant Director of Policy, Strategy and Public Affairs at the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman
Not enough people know that the reason we have a Public Sector Equality Duty is because of the murder of Stephen Lawrence in 1993 and the subsequent investigations into the actions of the Police. The Duty places a proactive obligation on all state institutions to advance equal opportunities, foster good relations and take action to address discrimination and victimisation. It’s a powerful force that should run through strategy accross the public sector.
Following the murder of Stephen Lawrence on this day in 1993, it was clear a radical rethink was needed to address discrimination and racism in Britain. Learn more about the Public Sector Equality Duty here: https://orlo.uk/DGkH5 #StephenLawrenceDay

Today marks the solemn anniversary of the murder of Stephen Lawrence, a tragic event that deeply impacted Britain and ignited a crucial dialogue about discrimination and racism in our society. In the wake of this senseless act, it became evident that a profound re-evaluation was necessary to address systemic inequalities and nurture a culture of inclusivity and equality for all. As we pause to reflect on this pivotal moment, it's imperative to acknowledge the enduring significance of initiatives such as the Public Sector Equality Duty. This duty embodies a steadfast commitment to advancing equality and combatting discrimination across the public sector, ensuring that every individual is treated with dignity and respect, irrespective of race, gender, disability, or any other characteristic. However, despite the strides made since 1993, the journey towards genuine equality remains ongoing. We must persist in advocating for policies and practices that challenge prejudice, dismantle barriers, and cultivate opportunities for all to flourish. Together, let us honour the memory of Stephen Lawrence by reaffirming our unwavering dedication to constructing a fairer, more inclusive society for generations to come. #StephenLawrence #Equality #Inclusion #SocialJustice
