So happy to see the 2033 Dubai Quality of Life Strategy coming to life ! This covers many topics dear to my heart. Proud to call this city home for the past 11 years. As usual Dubai is leading in its evolution and no effort is spared nor topic overlooked:
What caught my attention is that among the 3 pillars or goals the first one already focuses on a very important aspect: wellbeing at an individual level.
“The first goal is to foster well-being at an individual level. It involves development plans that prioritise people's well-being, stability, and happiness.”
“This goal focuses on elevating individual quality of life and improving the quality of physical well-being. This will be achieved through two key aspects. The first focuses on mental and physical health and, the economic environment, while the second addresses social and psychological well-being, encompassing three components: education, employment and work conditions, and security and safety.”

April 16, 2024 - It was a day of surprises in Dubai! With the highest rainfall recorded in the last 75 years, the rain gods went crazy while I was out for a morning run. By the time I found shelter, my shoes were drenched. The day went by with me waiting for some sunshine to dry them out, but alas, it was dark all day. In the end, I shared the lamp with our in-house tortoises.
Waiting through the day, hoping for some sunshine, feeling the urgent need to dry my shoes, I was thinking "Do you feel the need to control everything around you"? You can’t control how your colleagues think and act. You can’t control the traffic. You can’t control whether your loved ones become ill. And yet, accepting that you can’t control these things can be difficult in itself. But although you can’t control the world around you, you can control your reaction to it.
It's common that life feels chaotic or overwhelming at times, & it can be easy to get stuck in a cycle of stress and worry. But there are things you can do to cope with the chaos and find some calm:
1. Address your mindset
2. Identify what you can control
3. Practice mindfulness
4. Use deep breathing
5. Journal your thoughts
If all of the above doesn't work, seek help! There is no shame in working on your mental health :) The reality is, we have no control over other people’s behaviors and choices whether on a personal or global scale. All we can do is work on our own.
Here's to hoping for some sunshine! #DubaiRain#RainyDay#WeatherUpdate#hr#humanresources#mindset#mentalhealth#wellbeing#learning#development#strategy#business#mydubaiChoithramsDave CraneDr.Sanjay MuthalSanjay Agarwal#nhrdn#shrm#nature#workfromhome#online#remotework#work#culture#values#dubai#uae#gcc#change
Feeling alone in the #uae ? 🥺 It's okay…⬇️
Moving to a new city, especially one as bustling as the UAE, can be incredibly daunting. Leaving behind family, friends, and familiar surroundings while carrying big dreams and the weight of responsibility can often lead to feelings of loneliness and anxiety. This is completely normal.
Anxiety in these situations can stem from a fear of the unknown, the pressure to succeed, and the lack of a support system. It might manifest as constant worry, difficulty sleeping, or even physical symptoms like headaches or stomachaches.
But there is hope. Building a new support network, engaging in local activities, and seeking professional help can make a world of difference. I've been there myself, and as a psychologist, I can help guide you through this challenging time.
Remember, it's okay to ask for help. Feel free to reach out—together, we can work towards a brighter, more connected future. 🌟

🧠 A Psychological Perspective: The Emotional Rollercoaster of Real Estate in Dubai 🎢 🏡
💡 Having spent nearly a year in the vibrant and dynamic real estate industry in Dubai, I’ve witnessed the many challenges that agents face DAILY. Working on commission can create a daunting lack of financial security, leading to heightened stress and emotional turbulence. Not to mention dealing with all sorts of crazy people 🤡
❗ If YOU are working in Dubai Real Estate, let’s connect! Together, we can increase the mental health and well-being of the agents in your agency.
🤔 Despite the high employee turnover rates, it’s surprising to see how few agencies prioritize the mental health and well-being of their agents. I aim to inspire leading agencies to shift their focus and take proactive steps to support their agents’ mental health and personal development.
🧠 At Intermission Health, we offer affordable yet impactful 2-hour workshops that focus on self-awareness and personal development—essential for agents' growth and well-being. These workshops not only acknowledge the hard work of agents but also enhance their skill sets, confidence, and overall mental health.
💰 Investing in the well-being of agents doesn’t just foster a positive work environment; it leads to increased productivity, motivation, and retention. Ultimately, a healthier, more satisfied team translates to improved service for clients and higher profits for the agency! It’s a win-win situation! 💪

The habit of not letting go.
Most of us have a habit of being in control all the time whether it’s situations that we face everyday in life or at work.
There's a unique type of stress and exhaustion that comes with needing to be in control of everything. Maybe you feel pressured by the never-ending drive for "perfection" or you worry that any deviation from your plans or standard approach will create havoc.
We need to realize that ultimately at some point of time we need to leave things to nature. The more we try to be in control the more we lose the charm of the act.
It's natural to want some control over life, yet we have to take care not to form a negative, obsessive relationship with control. Our mental, emotional, and physical health suffer when we use our precious energy to over-manage issues that are ultimately meaningless or essentially out of our control.
So yes master the skill, be on top of it but don’t try to control the outcome.
Let nature do its wonders.

Resharing this insightful article on Dubai’s investment in ‘mental wealth.’ With AED105 million allocated to a new Mental Wealth Framework, Dubai is prioritizing mental health as part of its Social Agenda 33.
Guided by HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, this initiative aims to enhance mental well-being, making Dubai a top destination for living, working, and visiting. Dr. Khulood Alsayegh's leadership in shattering mental health stigma and implementing robust policies is remarkable.
As someone dedicated to the intersection of mental health, hospitality, healthcare, and well-being, I am excited to see these efforts taking shape.
PS…and yes, I loved living in Dubai

Mental health is no longer a direction of travel for Dubai...it’s the destination.
For Dubai is investing in ‘mental wealth’ with a new, comprehensive framework launched by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and backed by a budget of AED105 million.
This initiative is part of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which aims to make the Emirate the top destination for living, working, and visiting.
Guided by the directives of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the Mental Wealth Framework is designed to support the mental well-being of everyone in Dubai.
Dr. Khulood Alsayegh, Head of Policies & Standards, Dubai Health Authority, who we're delighted to say is a judge for ‘the mentl awards 2024’ wrote: “The mental health workshop we had earlier this year on 'shattering stigma in mental wellbeing' with Advance Health at Dubai Science Park came with a lot of initiatives and policy recommendations. Yes we were listening and yes it is happening.
“The Mental Wealth Framework will play an important role in the implementation of Dubai Social Agenda 33, a project launched this year aimed at making the emirate 'the world’s best destination for living, working, and visiting'.

We’ve become far too accepting of putative “mental illness”
Have you ever asked yourself why we’re so accepting of mental health and why it’s in EVERY country across the globe 😤
Fluctuation in our moods is a normal human reaction to the triggers around us, yet instead of us having humanity surrounding us to hold and regulate us, we live in a fucked up world that over stimulates our triggers, over stimulating our biochemistry, causing a chain reaction, where our microbiome goes awol, crossing the blood/brain barrier into the brain, causing inflammation, sometimes antagonising the NMDA receptors creating excitability, which create the anomalous behaviours- we then call this mental illness.
Because this is systemic not linear, there’s emotional reasons behind why this is happening, because living in this crazy world is an assault on our humanity:
Trauma’s & stressors which cause harm to the brain, such as from toxins in our environment or zoonic spillover from all the animals being shunted around from excessive capitalism, or work exhaustion from trying to prove oneself in a world that values financial metrics over humanitarian ones, etc etc
Mental Wealth is a fabulous expression but unless we change our capitalistic systems with their systemic injustices from valuing economic value metrics over humanitarian ones, I fear a global psychosis.
