🔬 Researchers at Dr. Brill Partner GmbH Institute for Hygiene and Microbiology have developed a 3D skin wound infection model to test antimicrobial agents’ effectiveness.
🔎𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬
• 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The model successfully found pathogens and triggered an inflammatory response, similar to what happens in real-life wounds.
• 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝: Without treatment, infections spread and caused significant tissue damage, showing that the model accurately mimics how untreated wounds get worse.
• 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: When antimicrobial wound dressings were applied, the model showed:
a) A reduction in bacteria levels
b) A decrease in inflammation
👉🏽𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬:
The new antimicrobial treatments offer more precise and reliable results than current methods, potentially improving our understanding of pathogen interactions with human skin & advancing the treatment of wound infections.
