It is #InvasiveSpecies Week & here is the first of our two new YW videos produced to raise awareness of invasive species, their impacts and what is being done to tackle the issue. In this video we revisit what invasive species are, how they are spread and their impacts on our environment and operations. We also remind to report any invasive species you spot to the INNS Mapper app/website. Watch this space for our 2nd video later this week highlighting our great work on implementation biosecurity. I will be presenting as part of the GB NNSS Invasive Species Week webinar series this Friday on INNS Mapper and it's uses for reporting surveys, sightings and management of invasive species. Link: https://lnkd.in/eE7_kBja And a quick reminder for anyone wanting to come to the British Ecological Society Invasion Science SIG meeting next month in Newcastle, registration is open until tomorrow - so book a spot before it's too late. The day will consist of keynotes, lightning talks, ECR lunch session, networking, etc., Link: https://lnkd.in/e3tY75AP ; https://lnkd.in/eh5KWuMF In this post I'll take the opportunity to give the reminder to all those actively involved with fieldwork and those involved in the coordination of works on site about the importance of biosecurity - from cleaning off your boots between sites all the way through RAMS including biosecurity & designed wash off areas for large equipment, it is vital we take this preventative steps to minimise the risk of spreading invasive species in our environment. So please all remember to Check Clean Dry & enjoy celebrating all the great work going on to tackle invasive species & protect our environment.
🌿 It's INNS Week! If you're out enjoying the beautiful countryside, you might come across invasive non-native species (INNS). To help us all understand more about these species, we've asked our Lead Invasive Species Ecologist, Steph, to share her insights. She'll explain what INNS are, why they're important, and how we can all help prevent their spread across Yorkshire and beyond. Last year, we launched the INNS Mapping tool in collaboration with organisations like the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and the Wales Resilient Ecological Network. This tool is part of our ongoing efforts to manage INNS and mitigate their impact on our ecosystems. 📍 You can use the app or website to report sightings, conduct surveys, and report the management of INNS across England, Scotland, and Wales. Plus, you can add photos of the species you spot for verification. For more details about the INNS Mapper, visit: https://ow.ly/okM750PvGTY

It’s September, so it’s peek blooming season for Eryngium Aquaticum, or “Bitter Snakeroot,” at my alma mater Clemson University’s #SouthCarolinaBotanicalGarden. This special place is a holistically managed landscape that fosters a healthy ecosystem while serving as a resource to advance awareness and understanding of our plants, animals, and culture. I’m reminded of how connecting to the natural environment is increasingly important within the #builtenvironment as well, and how #biophilicdesign strategies can have an impact on the health and well-being of people in indoor environments. #healthyspaces #nature #ecosystems

Imagine a busy city where everyone has a place to live and things to do. Marshes are just like that, but for plants and animals. They're teeming with life, from tall grasses to tiny bugs, all living together in harmony. And just like cities need parks to stay healthy, our planet needs marshes to keep its balance. #WorkingForABetterTomorrow! #MarshLife #Biodiversity #WetlandWonder #NatureBalance #WildlifeHabitat #EcoSystemRiches #NaturePreservation #BiodiversityHotspot #EcoSystemDiversity #MarshMagic
