Pride Month spotlights LGBTQ2IA voices and celebrates LGBTQ2IA culture, achievements, and activism through a series of events and programs held throughout the month. To celebrate Pride, DOWL’s Lake Oswego office sponsored Lake Oswego’s inaugural Pride LO festival on June 2nd at Millennium Plaza Park. We had a great time celebrating and supporting our community. #PrideMonth #EqualityForAll #AuthenticSelf

Pride Month is a celebration of LGBTQ2 pride, rights, and culture, so to ignore the unique ways IPV & GBV impacts these folks would be to invalidate their unique and nuanced experiences. Like many other marginalized groups, the statistics around GBV are startling and indicate that an intersectional approach needs to be taken in the work to eradicate violence within this community - starting by an honest look at the stats. Only then can we start to address why these numbers are the way they are, and what can be done to protect LGBTQ2 folks, support LGBTQ2 survivors, and prevent GBV in the LGBTQ2 community!

𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫. You’ll see logos across a number of organisations opt to change to a rainbow version…it’s pointless and unnecessary 🤷🏻♂️ Pride Month isn’t just about the Pride Month flags, the LGBTQ Pride Month facts or Pride Month resources because LGBTQ inclusion takes place 365 days of the year. At Bradford at Night, we do everything we can to make sure our network has a reputation of inclusivity and acceptance, and that people associate that with our normal logo, year-round. Pride is not just a celebration. Although it is an important to time to celebrate the progress that has been made across legislation, attitudes and behaviours, it is also a continued protest. June 1970, marked the first anniversary since the uprising at New York’s Stonewall Inn. Since then, the parades have also been a sign of fighting for liberation, visibility and equality. In the UK, particularly up until the repeal of Section 28 in 2003, Pride had a more protest feel than a parade. The Pride Month meaning remains the same and is a time for people within the community, and their allies, to celebrate successes in LGBTQ inclusion, but it is also a time for reflection. Throughout the month of June, #WAPA took pride in acknowledging and celebrating national Pride Month. The federal government has come a long way from its past and taken strides toward a more diverse and inclusive culture. Many federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), now participate in and celebrate Pride Month throughout their organizations through many activities, observances and celebrations. Perhaps one of the most powerful ways an organization or an individual shows support for the LGBTQ community is by displaying the Pride flag throughout June. Flags represent a powerful emblem of hope, strength and resilience, and raising the Pride flag shows us just that. When displayed, it represents a symbol of support, community, inclusion and for many, a safe space to be who they are without ridicule, judgment or harassment. The Pride flag represents support for diversity, inclusion and allyship for this community.
