Following an earlier workshop where the team delved into their strengths and behaviours and defined the team culture they wanted to protect, this time we met to turn the focus outward. As a team who works continuously with a diverse range of stakeholders, and on a wide range of projects, it was galvanising to walk through the building of an “extension canvas” that was developed specifically for this team and their type of work. The canvas ended up summarising: · the journey they are walking beside people on….and why, · the three key parts to a people centric view of behaviour change, · the key milestones/topics they would encounter along that complex trail, · and using the emotional culture deck to support conversations around how they wanted stakeholders to experience working with them · the key behaviours they committed to in order to uphold that experience ….all on one page. I’m very grateful this team showed up on the back end of very full weeks, two weeks in a row and trusted me to guide them through the processes and tools. #emotionalculturedeck #proelephantrider #ridersandelephants #emotionalculture #disc #disctraining #discflow Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (Queensland) The Emotional Culture Deck – Certified Practitioner Use the #1 game for better workplace culture to re-humanise the places you work. Long-term thinking is not something encouraged by our culture. It's all about the quick-fix. And speed. Sometimes, it's far better to slow down, and consider the long-term trajectory of a given project. Or even, your life! The corporate world deconstructs massive projects into a multitude of miniscule parts, so that any one person only ever works on a tiny portion, pours their heart and soul into it, sends off their work, and NEVER GETS TO SEE THE FRUITS OF THEIR LABOUR. Either because their small part of the job disappears among every other submitted small part, or because they aren't tuned into the channels where the larger project will eventually be revealed. This is a recipe for mid-life crises, burnouts, and overall general dissatisfaction with life.

Culture change that builds momentum and internal capability not dependency. | Culture Strategist and Coach| Chartered Occ Psychologist | Speaker
If the grass in your garden started to die you wouldn't send it on a training course on how to be green, or show it pictures of other green grass for inspiration. You probably wouldn't ask your neighbour's Olympic gold medal wining grass to pop over tell the story of its success. You'd look at the driving features of light, soil, water etc. So can we start to consider that our colleagues behaviour is a product of how their own preferences, mixed with how the current culture, systems, processes and behaviours of others encourage them to behave? That will be a better starting point for understanding and influencing those different parts of the system, in order to change behaviour. #Culture #culturechange #culturetransformation #systemsthinking

I was featured this morning in The Associated Press for Green Jobs Board about my views on the conversation field/ industry and the barriers the industry presents to people of color who may want to build a career in this space, but come to realize/ find that many of these predominantly white-led organizations create work cultures not conducive to the growth of employees of color. How can we fix this? -More trainings on cultural competency / bringing in JEDI experts -Creating accessible avenues for BIPOC to be on / lead boards (shout out to Green Leadership Trust for leading that initiative) -And more accessible materials for training and education (multicultural, multilingual documentation)
