🌟 My Journey with U&I: Empowering Change, One Step at a Time 🌟 My journey with U&I has been nothing short of transformative. What began as a passion for giving back to society quickly evolved into a leadership role that allowed me to mentor a group of dedicated volunteers. Together, we’ve been working tirelessly to provide education and life skills to underprivileged children, ensuring that every weekend session is impactful and meaningful. Stepping into Leadership: Taking on a leadership role at U&I meant more than just managing tasks; it was about guiding, mentoring, and inspiring our volunteers to bring their best to each session. One of my greatest joys has been seeing the positive impact we’ve had on the kids we work with, helping them build confidence and providing them with the tools they need to succeed. Creating a Supportive Community: Building a strong sense of community among our volunteers has been a priority for me. By fostering friendships and encouraging collaboration, we’ve created an environment where everyone feels supported and valued. This camaraderie has ensured that our mission continues seamlessly, even when challenges arise. Nationwide Leaders Event : Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in U&I’s leads event, where we connected with leaders from across the country. This event was not only a chance to network but also to learn from others who share the same passion for making a difference. The award function was a highlight, recognizing the hard work and dedication of volunteers nationwide. I walked away from the event with new insights and ideas to bring back to our local chapter. Looking Ahead : As I look to the future, I am excited to continue this journey with U&I. The experiences and lessons I’ve gained have been invaluable, and I am committed to doing even more to help the communities we serve. The key relationship in a nonprofit organization is that of the Executive Director and Board Chair. It's important to be deliberate and intentional about setting up this partnership! Their roles are different, so let's go over 3 important things you should know about board chairs: 1️⃣ Clarity in Roles: The executive's role and the board chair's role, are different. But those two should come together for the good of the organization, and for leadership. The board chair and the executive are the leaders of the organization. 2️⃣ Clear Job Description for the Board Chair: If you don't have a clear job description, work with the board chair to agree on what that is. And don't use a boilerplate board description. 3️⃣ Leadership in the Board Chair Role: The board chair needs to lead the board for a few reasons, but the biggest one is because they're the peer of the board. This partnership can make or break your organization. But it's not just about roles. Mutual respect, trust, and open communication are vital, so make time for weekly touch bases to keep the partnership thriving. So there you have it—three key things to know about board chairs! Whether you’re new to the role or just want to get the most out of working with a board chair, understanding their leadership style, strategic vision, and collaborative skills can make a big difference. On Wednesday we presented our insights at a client event in London on over 1,000 CEOs in the broader Public, Education and Not for Profit sectors, gathered from our leadership development, succession and recruitment work over the last 3 years. This included behavioural data against our model of leadership excellence 'Altitude' and psychometric data (bright and dark side). We covered: 🔵 The overall strengths and risk areas for CEOs in the context of the challenges they face. 💡 Key Finding: nearly half of CEOs we shortlisted have no high risk dark side derailers, significantly less than that seen in the private sector. 🔵 Comparing the profiles of CEOs to Director level individuals 💡 Key Finding - CEOs outperform Directors, as one would hypothesise, on 8 of the 12 areas of behavioural excellence, as independently determined by our Occupational Psychologists. 🔵 The differences between successful versus shortlisted CEOs 💡 Key Finding - unsuccessful CEO candidates are more likely to display over confidence when under pressure, which can manifest as arrogance, a sense of entitlement and overplaying capability. I am very proud of her leadership and desire to help local and global communities in need… My name is Avery Prince and I am beyond excited to announce that I am participating as a candidate for the 2024 Student Leadership Accelerator Program through the Amalfi Foundation! Over the course of the next six weeks, I will be working hard to fundraise in support of the Foundation’s mission. The Amalfi Foundation (AF) is on a mission to “elevate underserved communities at home and abroad” through two primary pillars: basic needs and community development. AF has partnered with local organizations to assist in providing food and other essentials to the community, while also providing opportunities to those in need by investing in people’s upward mobility and their path to a brighter future. The Student Leadership Accelerator program is a leadership development program in addition to being a fundraising campaign. I have been preparing for this day for the past 10 weeks by planning, strategizing, attending meetings, and building my network. I chose to be a part of this program because I understand the power of compassion. I believe in making a difference and know that every penny can help change someone's life. I not only get to participate in giving back, but I get to learn lifelong business skills that will guide me towards a successful future. The team I formed, Her Voice, is made up of all females. Working together, we create a powerful synergy driving change and making a significant impact. This is a testament to the strength and resilience of female leadership and what’s possible.
