One of the things I love most about Deloitte is the intense thoughtfulness we try to give to everything we do. Last week I was privileged to experience first-hand truly thoughtful perspectives from my colleagues during our #NationalMultistateTaxSymposium luncheon panel. Mike Bechtel, Jeremy Blank, and Jeffrey York offered wise insights to my questions around practical application of GenAI as well as deeper matters such as how to embed what really matters most to us -- our values, our need for trustworthiness, our need for worthwhile endeavors -- into the AI we create. From a personal perspective, a thought that abides with me since last week is to embrace GenAI with a sense of duty... not to merely leave these deeply important matters to unknown players but to actively engage and, to paraphrase from Mike: Ask. Interesting. Questions. #thoughtfulfuture #trust #values

“The future is already here, it’s just not evenly distributed.” — William Gibson   ⬆️ That quote is one of my colleague Mike Bechtel’s favorites, and a clear driving force behind his work as Chief Futurist at Deloitte. Mike and his team are dedicated to bringing ideas, technology and innovation together in a way that creates a better future for all, not just for some.   His work and drive inspire me constantly. So I was so glad to see, and had to share, this great interview with Finnish newspaper Kauppalehti (https://deloi.tt/4bTVpHH), from a recent trip around the Nordics to meet with global business leaders (Read it in English below). A few things that really resonated with me:   👉 AI will not diminish, but grow the importance of creativity. Its limits lie in the imagination of the user.   👉 Leaders should focus on the need before the solution. Mike describes AI and other new tech as a shiny new hammer that, once in hand, makes all problems look like nails you want to hit with said hammer. Instead, leaders should figure out what their problems are, prioritize them, and ask if it’s the best solution.   👉 Don’t use AI as a cost-cutting system. If your resources are freed up by new technologies, ask yourself where else they might be put to use instead of letting them go.   Thank you Mike for leading these kinds of open discussions about the future with us every day at Deloitte. I wouldn’t be so bold as to predict the future to our Chief Futurist, but I think that with you at the helm we’re in great shape!
