On Indigenous People's Day, we commemorate the contributions and resilience of Native American tribes. We'd especially like to honor the Lenni-Lenape tribe that inhabited regions of Delaware, New Jersey, and New York. Published in 2016, the state of Delaware officially recognized the Lenape tribe's cultural history in the region and affirmed their status as a Sovereign Indigenous Nation. On July 4th we celebrate the courage of those men and women who embraced the idea of freedom and indepedence and sacrificed much to earn it. It took over seven years from the time the Declaration of Independence was signed until the day the British surrendered, but those in the halls of Congress, and those who rallied behind such a powerful ideal didn't know how long the task would last. Today we are honored and inspired by those same "self- evident" truths to continue building a more perfect Union, no matter how long the task will take.
