This week our DASNY team stepped back in time during our most recent employee engagement activity, a Historical Walking Tour in Downtown Albany. 🚶♀️ ✨ This week we had the pleasure of joining DASNY’s very own Brian Dollard, Senior Cost Control Analyst for a short walk in the area. Brian is a lifelong historian who has studied local Albany history, genealogy, and has led numerous walking tours of downtown Albany over the past 15 years. The tour focused on over 400 years of history in the area near the DASNY headquarters on Broadway! The Grand National was this weekend - the world's most famous steeplechase where powerful horses and skilled jockeys took on the grueling 4-mile, 30-fence course at Aintree Racecourse 🐴 As I watched those Horses leap the Chair, Valentine's, and Canal Turn fences with grace and determination, it reminded me a lot of the employee engagement journey in our organisations 💼 Just like in the Grand National, having an engaged workforce isn't a straight gallop to the finish line. There are plenty of obstacles and challenges along the way that can knock you off course if you're not careful. You've got fences stacking up against you like: Poor leadership 📉 Toxic cultures 💀 Inflexible work hours 🕛 Lack of development opportunities 📚 Outdated tech ⌨️ Failure to motivate and energise your people means they'll quickly fall behind the field. The key is giving your employees the right tools, training, recognition, environment and encouragement to power over those hurdles. That means investing in their growth and development, recognising great work , building trust , and fostering an environment of open communication. When you've got a team of engaged, passionate employees who love what they do, that's when you can really go full throttle🐎💨 You'll have the agility and teamwork to soar over those fences while your competitors get left behind at the gate. How lovely to see job sharing celebrated, particularly in a management role. Job sharing is often rejected by employers for being "unworkable" when there are so many benefits, particularly for those with caring responsibilities.
