ArcelorMittal's Steel Solutions for Energy Transition and Electric Vehicles
ArcelorMittal's XCarb initiative for recycling and renewable production has been implemented in its factory in Sestao, Spain, utilizing a high proportion of recycled steel and fully renewable electricity in electric arc furnaces. Depending on the product, the carbon footprint can be up to 75% lower than traditional steel. ArcelorMittal is committed to reducing CO2 emissions by 35% by 2030 and achieving zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
The company also showcased its iCARe steel, developed specifically for the automotive market. These steel materials reduce emissions, increase the range of electrically powered vehicles, and most importantly, help to lower the overall costs for manufacturers in electrification. The Multi-Part Integration (MPI) concept plays a key role here: by seamlessly integrating multiple automotive parts into a single laser-welded blank (LWB), these steel solutions not only reduce complexity but also lighten the vehicle weight and significantly cut costs.
