The alliance of the EU member states said they need an additional 50 GW of nuclear power by 2050, requiring over 30 new reactors to cost €5 - €11 billion per GW. When expressed in terms of electricity production (kWh or GWh), costs take into account the total cost of generating unit of power: investment in construction, operation (day-to-day running, maintenance, etc.) and fuel (loading, life cycle, etc.). This is the Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE). However, estimates often focus on the investment costs required to construct the plant (measured in kW, GW) because it represents around 70% of the cost of a new reactor, while operating costs represent only around 15% and fuel costs around 15% of the total amount.

In a first, the government is inviting private investment in the nuclear energy sector to increase the amount of electricity from sources that do not produce carbon dioxide. The government is in talks with 5 private firms including Tata Power and Adani Power for investments up to $26 billion. Ghana selects potential sites for first NPP Nuclear Power Ghana (NPG) has selected Nsuban and Obotan as two potential sites to host its first NPP. Detailed technical assessments are being concluded to determine the preferred sites to host the 1,000 MWe plant by 2030. However, it is believed that Nsuban in the Western Region is the preferred location, while Obotan in the Central Region will serve as a backup site. #ghanabusiness #ghana
