At the entrance of Jurong Island, you can see the 2 x 90 MW gas turbines run by YTL PowerSeraya. These old units will be replaced by Meranti Power's Open Cycle Gas Turbines (OCGTs). OCGTs provide fast start generation capacity. "Singapore’s existing OCGTs are more than 30 years old and are due for replacement. As there is no commercial interest from the private sector to build new OCGTs, EMA has commissioned its subsidiary, Meranti Power, to build these two new OCGTs to replace retiring capacity and provide back-up capacity for future growth in electricity demand. The two new OCGT units will provide sufficient fast start generation capacity to meet Singapore’s needs. The OCGTs are expected to be operationally ready by June 2025. These OCGTs will use natural gas as their primary fuel but can use diesel as a backup fuel. The OCGTs will also be future ready. They will be able to take up to 30% hydrogen and, with the necessary enhancements, can harness up to 100% hydrogen in the future." https://lnkd.in/gtJDJShd

I am thrilled to celebrate another significant #milestone for our HA fleet: 100 HA gas turbines in commercial operation, with 60 additional units on order globally!   The 100th HA unit, a 7HA.03, was recently commissioned at KOSPO's Shinsejong Combined Cycle Power Plant in #SouthKorea. With South Korea's power generation very reliant on heavy fossil fuels today, gas power plays an important role in facilitating the country’s transition to a lower carbon future. Our HA combined-cycle power plants emit 50-60% less CO2 compared to a typical coal-fired plant of the same size.    In addition, our H-class gas turbines can operate on up to 50% #hydrogen by volume, and our combined cycle plants can be retrofitted with a carbon capture system that can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 95%. Gas plays an important role in our energy future and I am proud of the work GE Vernova is doing to help #electrify and #decarbonize the world. Does Malaysia have a Tradition of Being a Technology Frontier for Energy? During my lecture with the Final Year Engineering students this week, I mentioned that Malaysia has a long tradition of being the first country to utilise the latest technology. In the natural gas industry, we are the first to use floating storage for the first LNG regasification terminal in ASEAN and the first to put the Floating LNG plant into commercial operation. On the power generation front, we are the first to utilise the F-class gas turbine, first to use H-class gas turbine in a cogeneration configuration, first to use the GE HA.02 50Hz gas turbine etc. Also, Bakun Dam was the tallest concrete-faced rockfill dam (CFRD) in the world when completed. Today, Malaysia is in the frontier of another nascent technology in the form of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC). According to The Edge Malaysia, UTM & Universiti Putra Malaysia are working with Saga University to bring the Hybrid-OTEC (H-OTEC) research into commercialisation stage. China's largest gas storage facility, Hutubi Gas Storage has just leveled up its operations! This upgrade adopted Jereh's groundbreaking electric-driven high-pressure centrifugal compressor units. Compared to the original equipment, our compressor delivers a fivefold increase in gas injection efficiency per unit. This enhancement has propelled the facility's gas injection capacity from 565 MMcf/d to an impressive 9.18 Bcf/d, with a projected daily peak-shaving capacity reaching 14.18 Bcf.
