To secure Ukraine’s key infrastructure facilities, the USAID Energy Security Project (ESP) launches a detailed Feasibility study of installing subsurface safety valve (SSSV) systems in high-flow rate wells of one of the underground gas storage facilities (UGSF) with potential follow-up procurement and installation of the SSSV’s at UGSF. As concluded in the related Pre-feasibility study, also supported by USAID ESP, significant economic efficiency could be achieved, outweighing installation and maintenance costs, enhanced safety for personnel and the facility itself.
Through this activity, USAID ESP seeks to assess the possibility of strengthening energy security, guaranteeing reliable natural gas volumes, and increasing the environmental safety of gas storage operations.
The Ukrainian UGS facilities help ensure reliable transit gas supplies to European countries, which helps to minimize seasonal fluctuations in gas consumption by Ukraine and Europe and create long-term and operating reserves of natural gas.
