Did you know that only 250 miles of rail-trails were known to exist in 1986, when RTC opened its doors?
Learn more about history of rail-trails and how the movement has grown to include 24,000 miles of rail-trails (with more on the way) in this interview with Peter Harnik, cofounder of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, in this recent episode of Resources Magazine Radio!
Dominion Energy (main corporate actor behind the defunct Atlantic Coast Pipeline) at it again, turning the land of generations into toxic waste sites.
This time in my backyard.
Commissioners (Gordon Powell, Chair Person Board of Comm., Arbitrator, Derrick Sims, Kyle W. Puryear, Jason D. Thomas, Charlie Palmer) voted unanimously to approve the Moriah Energy Center project in Person County, NC, giving the go-ahead for Dominion Energy to build a liquified natural gas (LNG) storage facility.
Requiring the rezoning of 485 forested-acres, the community spoke up in outrage for over two hours, and within 20 seconds the project was board approved.
These LNG facilities are ladened with air quality concerns, water contamination impacts, habitat destruction and disruption and the overall community impacts and opposition.
On the bright side, there are incredible organizations fighting big corps on projects like MEC around the nation.

And most importantly, power to the people.
Stand up for the planet, go to your public meetings. Speak up, write to your representatives. Demand good policy for now and for future generations.

Affordability is critical as we transition to EVs, which is why I'm really looking forward to this workshop tomorrow with state regulatory decision-makers on how to maintain customer affordability as utilities invest in transportation electrification. Should be a terrific session!
Our social media feeds have been seeing a lot of Elizabeth Turnbull lately! She's an expert in her field, and she will be presenting a workshop on transportation electrification at the 2023 National Council on Electricity Policy Annual Meeting.
Did you know that in 2023 OHCS and partner agencies helped over 67,000 households with energy assistance? Find out more on what we accomplished last year in our 2023 Annual Report, “Building Oregon’s Future.” https://lnkd.in/gyDis4An

If we have any ability to “do math” as a nation, we will “build baby, build” in nuclear. A simple look at energy density alone (not to mention a full life cycle carbon audit) will show that nuclear is the cleanest energy production technology of all. But I am tilting at windmills…..and solar panels.

I was thrilled to see Georgia Power Company’s Vogtle 4 placed into commercial operation, making Plant Vogtle the largest #generator of clean energy in the nation. Together, Units 3 and 4 will produce enough #electricity to power an estimated 1 million homes and businesses for the next 60 to 80 years.
It is surreal to see what Southern Company has achieved for Georgia, the U.S., and the world given the uncertainties in place when we partnered with them at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in 2017.
Well done Chris Womack, former CEO Tom Fanning, and the entire Southern Company family on this groundbreaking accomplishment! And thanks to Rick Perry for recognizing the successful #future of this project.
