Giving your users *too* many knobs, configuration, and options can backfire on the product. It might seem obvious to give the users all the control. If anything *can* be configured, it should be configurable. But that can lead to its own set of issues: 🔴 Overly complex product turns away users (too high barrier of entry) 🔴 Config combination issues 🔴 Supportability nightmares 🔴 Difficult interface for configuration (no longer just a few command line parameters) Of course, not giving enough control over the behavior is also an issue. Finding the right balance can be an art! #softwaredevelopment #softwareengineering
