Inspirational few days with colleagues at DLA Piper Nordic Arena in Tampere, Finland. It’s about doing business wiser with our clients. It’s about doing it stronger together. For me one of the most motivating sessions was about the sustainability & ESG. A topic which is utmost important to all businesses and in which this kind of pure M&A attorney like me can combine other topics to work life close to my soul such as human rights, climate justice, diversity and inclusion & environmental topics. I could have listened the very strong and decisive presentation by Jean-Pierre Douglas-Henry for the rest of the day. Even though I got irritated for having been reminded how bad human beings are treating the globe, climate, environment and living nature and that how our efforts to change the direction for climate are insufficient. But got motivated, empowered (sorry for using this word which I personally do not like at all) and inspired in my work trying to tie the threads together for sustainability client advisory. We can make the worl better. Business and markets can solve many ESG related challenges and show the way for the governments. Thank you for the inspiration, JP! In addition to pure business talk, events like this are of course much about meeting colleagues; gettogether with old friends and get to know new people and discuss, share experiences and ideas. Last week we hosted our staff summer BBQ event in Luxembourg, bringing together employees for an evening of relaxation and team building in a festive outdoor setting. July is an interesting time in law firms in Australia. It's often a time to celebrate promotions and recognise the hard work of staff and partners, with many team dinners and EOFY parties taking place at the moment. It's also a time when people take a break and try to rejuvenate and reinvigorate themselves for the next year. For most, it’s a time to reflect on their role and work out what the next 12 months holds. We all want a sense of fulfillment and purpose in our jobs; to know we are valued and recognised. We spend so much time at work, sometimes more than the time spent with our family and friends, we really should enjoy most of what we do and where we do it.
