🌍From Diversity Hiring to Tier-Based Selection… Now This? First, we came the tier-based approach, with a focus on Tier 1 and Tier 2 colleges. Now, we're seeing opportunities restricted based on geographic location. Is this really the direction we want to head in? Talent, skill, and passion should be the driving factors behind hiring decisions—not which state someone resides in. Restricting participation to students from specific regions narrows the talent pool and undermines our commitment to building inclusive workplaces. I hope that we can collectively push for hiring practices that recognize and nurture potential, regardless of location or background. I've had my fair share of poor recruitment processes. 😩 Times when the job descriptions did not accurately represent the role. Times when I was told I was overqualified. Many times where I never heard back. And times when the onboarding process failed to support me in integrating into the company. Organisations need to do better, especially if they want to recruit diverse talent. From my experience and hearing the experiences of others, I want to change this narrative! I’ve heard this saying far too often throughout my career. Not usually directed at me (that I know of), but often to those who have come through any of the many talent development pipeline programs I’ve built. What most don’t realize is that folks who come from these pipeline programs have gotten on average about 8 roles out of as many as 3,000 applicants - their chances of getting into any Ivy League school are better than getting into these programs. They aren’t DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION hires, they are DISCIPLINED & EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT, they are DEDICATED & ENGAGED INDIVIDUALS and they are DETERMINED, EAGER & INDUSTRIOUS - I can go on, but you get the picture. Now this phrase is being thrown at the highest office in this country. 😡 It’s time for a new narrative. I’m taking the letters DEI back and am using any of the many positive words that better reflect those who have had to work TWICE as hard to get their roles. #diversitymatters #representationmatters #newnarrative #DefendDiversity

From Skills to Goals: My 4-Step Process 🎯 After getting clear on my unique superpowers, it was time to connect them to a tangible career shift. I set my sights on pivoting from sales into an employee engagement role at Google. But HOW, exactly? I broke it down into 4 steps: ✅ Audit my skillset I already did the work to uncover my strongest attributes. Now it was time to examine why those talents mapped well to engagement roles. ✅ Envision dream opportunities I got ultra clear on what an ideal engagement role could entail by researching teams and talking to folks internally who were already in roles I aspired to. ✅ Set SMART goals If my dream was engagement focused on learning and development, my goal became moving into a DEI/L&D role within 1 year. ✅ Make moves I volunteered for engagement projects, networked with the team doing the work I was interested in, and discussed goals with my manager.
