When discussing hiring with Founders and Sales Leaders many seem to wrestle with which would be the better hire! 1. Someone who has been there and done it before. 2. Someone who has not done it, but has potential and everything to prove. The reality is neither of the above are wrong, both could be highly successful hires! What you need to do is understand your environment and which person stands the best chance of being successful with you. Fascinating to see companies still hiring teams of SDRs and BDRs while the numbers continue to plummet on cold outreach. These resources are expensive, the payback period is usually 18 months, and the attrition rates are high (either through promotion or otherwise). It’s easy to fall into the trap of expecting yesterday’s math to work today. The reality is that response rates and expectations are just not being met (and getting worse with AI-generated emails) so the traditional math on outbound SDRs and high-quality pipeline creation no longer works. Forward-thinking companies are now seeing the value of shifting some of these dollars into more predictable channels for top-of-funnel production including partner-led growth, customer/employee referral programs, and more network-based growth. Instead of investing in blind activity, redirecting funds to help uncover the relevance and relationships that help the current SDRs, AEs, and their marketing colleagues engage new prospects faster and at higher levels.

"No interesting companies are hiring for my role" 🙄 that's what a friend of mine told me. bad take 👎🏾 Just because they're not hiring right now doesn't mean that they won't be hiring near term! Also, just because they don't have a listing posted... doesn't mean they're not hiring 😉 There's three key benefits from prospecting into orgs that may not be hiring for your role right now: 1: You've now networked into a hiring manger and have some level of relationship created, when previously... you had nothing. That's a win! 2: You've shown how proactive you are in learning about an organization and a measure that you took to get the answer. This translates into your proactive energy with how you will manage your accounts once hired. 3: You just set yourself apart being proactive compared to all the others with a fixed "they're not hiring - why bother" mentality.
