I am proud to have shared the stage with fellow Points of Light board member Brenda Robinson at the national conference this week discussing the urgent need for volunteerism in our communities and how UPS is answering the call.    The UPS Foundation has partnered with Points of Light and its boots-on-the-ground affiliates for years to inspire, equip and mobilize people to create a more equitable and just world. Service is in UPS’s DNA, and we’re proud to leverage our resources, expertise, and passion to deliver 30 million volunteer hours by 2030 in communities globally.   This impact is more important now than ever. Volunteerism is on a decline when our world needs urgent help. Research suggests that volunteering is not only beneficial for communities and organizations, but also has positive effects on the wellbeing of the volunteers, creates connectedness and boosts civility.   That’s why The UPS Foundation is laser focused on making volunteer opportunities accessible to all our employees. "Volunteering can be a transactional activity, or it can challenge the way you think about the world and your place in it," says Mandy Iverson. In that vein, the Medtronic Foundation and the Medtronic GIDE team have started a conversation on how to transform corporate volunteering. They created an Equity in Community Engagement Toolkit, and while it isn't available publicly (exclusive content for Medtronic employees!), we were able to share three tips for engaging responsibly with the community -- especially when it comes to corporate volunteer opportunities. First, make sure you’re partnering with organizations that share community-centric values. There are a few things you can look for, such as an organization's mission and values explicitly mentioning a commitment to equity and inclusion and having diverse staff and leadership. Comcast NBCUniversal is one of only a small number of companies that have consistently achieved such high marks in the program’s 12-year history. “The way we invest in and support our communities is such an important part of who we are at Comcast NBCUniversal,” said Dalila Wilson-Scott, EVP and Chief Diversity Officer, Comcast Corporation and President, Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation. “It’s an honor to be named to The Civic 50, and to work with partners and teammates who are doing such great work to help make our communities stronger and our future brighter.” Comcast NBCUniversal’s longstanding commitment to driving positive social impact includes Project UP, our $1 billion digital equity and economic mobility initiative that's opening doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers, and creators.
