J&Js Energy for Performance Training reminded me of the profound impact that holistic well-being - encompassing physical, mental, and spiritual health - has on our professional lives. Prioritizing self-care and maintaining a healthy work-life balance creates a solid foundation for success and fulfillment.

Training meetings are vital to the success of our Troop. It is an opportunity to sync and discuss future operations, friction points and lessons learned from previous training events. But, more importantly, it is an opportunity to have candid conversations with the leaders on the ground who can provide myself and the Commander the current outlook from their positions. #11ACR #dreamteam

I like what the current US Army leadership team messaged on 26 October 2023. Specifically: “To maintain America's trust, we must serve with competence and character. Foundational to that is enforcing standards and ensuring accountability, which ensure discipline in our formations.” As a retired combat veteran with over 24 years active duty service, I agree with this entirely. To me, ACCOUNTABILITY is the most important word in the message. This is because the person is accountable to oneself and to the organization. For example, If you fail to account for your own actions, you fail the organization. At the same time, if you fail to act in accordance with the values of your organization, you lose ACCOUNTABILITY to yourself and your organization. How does one lose accountability personally and organizationaly? Lack of character and competence come easily off the tongue, but really it comes down TRUST. When your nation, constituents, supervisors, peers, etc., lose your trust, you lose all accountability with the organization (and system). At this point, you should reflect and do what’s best for the organization. Resign and look for another career.

I am excited to be a part of the 106th Technical Management Program at UCLA Extension this week. A measuring stick in every manager's annual review is, "Develops Others." In many organizations, there is expectation without investing in the competencies of their managers. I want to applaud Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Blizzard Entertainment, Activision, United States Department of Defense, Cedars-Sinai, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Sandia National Laboratories, and Point Mugu Naval Air Station for investing in their managers by sending them to our world-class program. I am confident about two outcomes: 1) Participants' self efficacy will grow in 'Managing Across Generations' and 'Understanding the Emotional Processes of Leading Change," and 2) You will be able to observe their competency in both. It is no secret, young professionals are attracted to companies that invest in their development.
