The Las Vegas Street Circuit is newly introduced in the F1 2023 session and is COLD to the constructors and the drivers.
Reason?
๐๏ธCAN BE THE COLDEST
The constructors can notice that it is a real logistical and engineering challenge for the teams. The Las Vegas conditions are almost close to the โcoldest F1 raceโ ever, that is the Canadian Grand Prix of 1978, at only 2หF temperature higher than the race.
๐๏ธTIRE GAMBLE
Cool is not so cool for the tires. The traction provided by the tires is severely reduced when they are not heated. Due to this reason, any F1 race starts on softs or mediums to maintain stability. Here it is the only option and hence Pirelli, the official tire manufacturer is sending the soft tyres from C3 to C5 compounds. The tires need to heat up at least up to a standard temperature, to maintain grip. So, soft tires can be as good as mediums, even the hards in some conditions.
๐๏ธAERODYNAMICS AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM
Coming to the aerodynamic systems, as per the calculation, increased density will increase downforce and hence the game of traction will be compensated efficiently if the aerodynamicists take the matter into their own hands. The brake fluid freezing or thickening may clog ducts and increase brake distance and inaccuracy, still the optimisation is being taken care of for the best performance.
๐๏ธCRUCIAL MANAGERIAL TAKES
It seems like the FIA is going to organise a snowboarding face-off with the drivers and the constructors. As per Mercedes AMG Petronas team CEO Toto Wolff, logistics management is also a crucial factor that is quite new for them in Vegas, which is a fresh track for them, and team movement from hotel to circuit, preventing the crew from not engaging to casinos, etc. Is also a part of Hamilton and Russellโs team.

Brings back many memories of my time in F1 - building a broadcast centre in an underground car park and working nights to minimise disruption to the monegasque locals was just a couple of the challenges - fantastic event though and amazing location!
