#Airbus is actively promoting its eMCO (Enhanced Monitoring and Control Operations) initiative to FedEx. As reported by Aviation Week, Airbus has introduced two innovative freighter aircraft concepts aimed at optimizing crew utilization. The first, more radical proposal involves the A321F, initially certified for operation by two pilots. However, the aircraft's design and systems are intended to evolve over time to achieve single-pilot approval. This innovation could significantly reduce the crew requirement. The second concept pertains to the A350F, designed for EMCO approval. This approach allows for a single pilot to manage the flight deck during low-workload cruise phases of long-haul flights. Implementing this concept could potentially reduce the need for additional relief crews, especially on extended routes. These visionary ideas, collectively known as "Project Morgan," were presented to FedEx in early 2022. Nevertheless, they have faced challenges in gaining momentum, primarily due to regulatory obstacles. Despite these hurdles, the documents outline Airbus's forward-thinking approach to the evolution of Single-Pilot Operations (SPO) within the aviation industry. Can you imagine the amount of strength it takes to lift a massive airplane off the ground and sustain it in the sky? ✈ A Boeing 747's engine is an amazing feat of machinery, with a horsepower that exceeds the combined power of almost 300 cars! This jet engine has a horsepower of 59,934. Such enormous force is needed to propel a Boeing 747 to reach cruising altitude at around 35,000 feet and travel at a speed of over 600 miles per hour. This Airbus A320Neo is cleaned, fueled, loaded with passengers, their baggage, cargo and mail and ready for its six hour long flight to Novosibirsk. Every flight arrival is like the end of some process for its passengers. They rush to leave the cabin full of their thoughts and plans. And only we see this process like a single set of procedures to turnaround the aircraft right on its schedule. Beacon off, chokes on, grounding, cones, stairs, apron buses, belt loaders and baggage carts to unload the baggage as soon as possible, sign papers, count bags, unload cargo and mail, count and sign, offload passengers with reduced mobility, offload arrived galley carts, clean the cabin, collect and throw all thrash, change headrest covers, fueling, load cargo, mail, load meals, load tons of baggage looking at its priority, count, load passengers with reduced mobility, load checked in and screened passengers with their cabin baggage checked for allowance, count and count, sign papers, remove stairs, cones, chokes, beacons on, push back, start engines and all it in just an 1h 15 min. #Boeing's mid-#flight blowout a big #problem for company...The cruising height of a #737Max is around 38,000ft. At this level, the difference between the #pressure inside the #aircraft and the #atmosphere outside is much greater. Had the door blown out here, the sudden rush of #air would have been much more #violent, and potentially #lethal, especially if #passengers were not wearing seat belts...Passengers in the seats immediately adjacent, or in other seats around it who weren't wearing a seatbelt could have been #SuckedOut of the aircraft...I guess the worst case could be you lose a row full of people and a couple of others standing nearby as well...The #temperature in the aircraft would also have dropped dramatically. Air at such #altitudes is typically very #cold, around -57C (-71F). Passengers and crew would have been reliant on #emergency #oxygen. Without it they would have quickly #LostConsciousness...It could be design, it could be a manufacturing defect, or a combination of the two. Or it could be something else, something unknown... its #safety record has been badly tarnished...Both #crashes were caused by flawed flight control software, which ultimately forced the planes into #catastrophic dives, despite the best efforts of the #pilots...since the 737 Max came back into service, there have been a number of high profile problems with the programme, including #ElectricalFaults and #QualityControl issues…Safety campaigners have also expressed concern about the number of reported #malfunctions aboard aircraft that have gone into service. In December, Boeing called on airlines to inspect rudders on their aeroplanes, after a bolt was found to be missing on one aircraft. It said it was acting "out of an abundance of caution". In the wake of the accidents, Boeing faced widespread accusations of putting profit above the safety of passengers. #Whistleblowers claimed the company was putting undue pressure on its employees to build too many aircraft too quickly, leading to #chaotic conditions in its factories, and corners being cut on production lines...He insisted that conditions inside Boeing's factories have not improved, and that the US #regulator has been ineffective in holding the company to account. "This is just a gigantic wake-up call"..."This might just be a major blessing to have such a highly visible incident occur that will cause them to have to admit they have some serious problems."...Boeing has consistently denied such problems exist...Whatever the cause, it is likely to create further anxiety around the already-damaged 737 Max brand, particularly among passengers. #ToxicAltitude #SummitBrain #NightShiftRecovery https://lnkd.in/gwB42Z4Q

Towing of the Heston Airlines Airbus A320. One of our challenges is the process of pushing the plane back out of the parking area. This is usually necessary when the #aircraft cannot move forward after being serviced due to physical obstacles or security restrictions at the airport. In such cases, towing tractors come in handy and are used to push the plane back in reverse. Sometimes, we must perform a reverse procedure - not to push but to tow a plane to another spot. This week's "retrojet" is, to my mind, an especially attractive one. Qantas's 1970's/early 1980's livery just looks fantastic on one of the Australian flag carrier's Boeing 737-800's. "VH-XZP" is seen here, likely from a helicopter, taxiing at Sydney Kingsford-Smith International late in 2014. There were at least two -800's done up as retrojets, the other being in the airline's 1950's colors. I know I posted one of them a few months back but, frankly, cannot remember if it was this one or the aircraft with the earlier design. This particular photograph really caught my eye today so I decided that, if VH-XZP was shown a second time, this new aerial angle made it worth posting again.
